S3 #60 - Sperrle's Legions - England Summer 1940

To the west of Luftflotte 2 flying from Normandy and Cherbourg is Field Marschall Sperrle's many legions of airmen. Luftflotte 3 is tasked with attacking the crucial Portsmouth/Southampton area of southern England and sinking as many ships plying the Channel as possible. Sperrle plans to conduct a systematic attack on the main RAF bases knocking their fighters from the sky and rendering their airfields and vaunted radar useless. But RAF 11 Group has other ideas and has based strong defensive forces in this area. They know they will be outnumbered but if they can keep squadrons at readiness they will be able to always meet the German attacks with a force that will inflict prohibitive losses on the enemy.

In this series the Allies have the numbers advantage but must limit their close escort around the strength of a united and large bomber group. The Luftwaffe cannot scramble everything but must decide carefully where to launch their smaller units of fighters scattered throughout Germany and form them up quickly so the bombers can be hit several times inbound and outbound to the Father land. The challenge to both sides is great even if the series is one of the easier ones to organize with limited strategic options. But the tension will be there, good planes, good pilots and tough decisions in hell.
