#48 - France Is Kaput - Europe May 1940
The
Phoney War is over. Dawn on May 10, 1940 hears the rumble of aircraft engines over the Dutch and Belgian borders. German troops stream across the frontier and the panzers are not far behind them. Bold decisive actions see the Germans push quickly past the lightly defended posts allowing their panzers to form up for the spearheads into the heart of the Allied defenses. Paratroops land and fight bloody little battles against Dutch and Belgian defenders. The Luftwaffe moves to surprise the Allied air forces and destroy them on the ground. The RAF is ready to move forward and help the Belgian defences. Battle is joined and it will forever change the world.
In
this series the RAF will always be on the defensive trying to hit first one then another panzer thrust as their Allies try and save their homelands. The Luftwaffe must attack and attack again to get their panzers into the open and get them a breakthrough to reach the channel as quickly as possible. FIK is mainly a tactical series with heavy emphasis on low-level attacks against towns and troop columns representing the main advances by both sides. The fight will have to come down from lofty altitudes so that bombers and strike a/c are protected on the deck and at medium altitudes.
This
series is the first in a three part Britain Stands Alone campaign that pits the RAF
against the Luftwaffe, spanning the early battles in France, England and the desert, 1940-1941.
France is Kaput runs on Feb 24, Mar 2, Mar 9, Mar 16 and Mar 23.
