The Squad Select Series is a player organized event in WarBirds that simulates the large-scale battles fought between opposing Air Forces during The Second World War. Fast and furious since 1998 the S3s are the oldest and longest running online multi-player event with detailed planning and intense periods of combat. Everything is based upon the squad, flying realistically and playing with honor. Players have thousands of hours of online combat and are some of the most experienced and deadly virtual pilots out there. Awards and cumulative scoring allow each player to track their career and squad exploits over the years.

For those individuals wanting more than a silly furball at a thousand feet join the S3s and fly a combat mission in WW2. Login to the S3 fontArena on game day and our helpful squads will get you organized to fly. S3#113 Battle of Kursk (BOK) - Summer 1943

The Battle of Kursk was to be the decisive test for the Luftwaffe and the entire Wehrmacht on the Eastern front. Kursk was important for several reasons. A bulge in the German front centered around Kursk had been taken by the Soviets in early 1943. The existence of this salient required the Germans to hold 300 miles of front along the boundary between Army Group Center and Army Group South, stretching German forces critically thin on the Eastern front. Additionally, the Russian salient lay across the important lateral rail route connecting the transshipment point at Kharkov with Army Group Center. Finally, the bulge in the German lines gave the Russians the opportunity to threaten the flanks of both Army Groups Center and South by giving them the potential to attack either north or south. Strategically, Hitler hoped that an attack, (code name: Operation Citadel) and encirclement of Soviet forces at Kursk would halt the Soviet westward momentum and force a decision favorable to Germany. However, the Soviet government had foreknowledge of the German intentions, provided in part by the British intelligence service. Aware months in advance that the attack would fall on the neck of the Kursk salient, the Soviets built a defense in depth designed to wear down the German armored spearhead… S3 #113 The Battle For Kursk– The Luftwaffe and the Soviet Air Force lock horns in the skies above 800 tanks of the Soviet army lined up against 600 German tanks in the largest tank battle in military history, the Battle of Kursk.

This series features a modified Crimea terrain and will feature the new revised flight models for most of the fighters involved. Players will have to fly the good, the bad and the ugly to win. Mainly a fighter vs fighter event but those players so inclined to fly bombers or drive ground vehicles will have the opportunity to effect the outcome of the series by attacking important operational targets.

This event begins on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in the S3 Arena at 8:30PM Eastern/5:30 PM Pacific. Five frames in the schedule. Available squads and their Squad roles
