From the setup:
Quote:
Icons – d24 friendly, d12 range, d6 enemy plane

just fyi: Last frame the D range for friendly icons was only D5 and not D12

Watching everyone's videos for fighter engagements I see a lot...I mean a LOT of clicking on planes to determine if it's a friend or a foe. Left click tunes radio right click 6 call no response = enemy or too far away.

Isn't this the job of the Icons?

clicking on an airplane is just another way of getting around the icons...
I don't consider it cheating because it's using the tools that are available to everyone all the time, but I don't seem to remember any WW2 planes that had touch screen canopies.

In my opinion icons on the computer should be visible further out than they are now... Yeah.. it's been beat to death.

Other Icons:
WW2OL used to do it where the longer a plane was in your current view the brighter the icon got...but a quick glance would yield almost no icon.

It is my opinion that clicking distance should match the visibility distance of the icons. which should be much further out than it is now. Has this been addressed previously?

It should have been the standard icon settings, I will check to make sure.

Click range is the same as the max icon range of 7200 or 2400 yards or d24.

Icons are much higher than when we first started S3s; D12 friendly d8 enemy was the average back then. There are basically two camps in the S3s one that wants them shorter and one that wants them longer. This seems to be a good compromise.

We could do with Clickrange 0 in S3.

Icons are used as the only way to judge closure and subsequently aspect...

Saying I can't ID an airplane until 3000' is a bit crazy...the fact that we fly around in a default "zoomed out lense" setting makes it that much worse.

Dawger never clicks so no click doesn't bother him:)

The longer the plane stays in your FOV as a variable icon range is a great one...but recode isn't going to happen right now. Will tuck that one in for future reference though:)

I don't use it because it is an unintended consequence of a game feature.

It was meant to enable folks to tune a radio or call "check six" not as IFF.

We need a new icons system.

I never use it for iff, it's just that in the heat of battle, I'm very interested in tuning my radio to as many different players as possible. Yeah... that's it ;)

You're not alone. I don't use clicking for the very same reason. Always thought it was a bit unrealistic, just like having a slip indicator or pitch ladder up on the HUD. I'd S-can the HUD altogether if LW gauges were actually readable and accurate.

We need the HUD because the instruments don't really work. :(
