Last week I booted up the computer Was fine saturday, then sunday 10 min prior to the s3 and it was like I had never run windows before. User accounts were there, password was the same but when I opened it I'd lost all the settings etc etc.. like my user was brand new.

running Win 7 64bit...

any ideas of how I might be able to recover the previous settings (restore didnt work)
or am I stuck redoing everything. When I look at users it only lists the ones I expect, there is no "broken" new renamed user.

dont have my bookmarks... all the stuff looks empty, but the software that is there runs fine. Warbirds was fine, but my saitek stick software didnt load...

If you previously made a backup of the "settings" folder, then simply copy the backup files (overwrite) from the backup folder into the settings folder (the backup files should be dated OLDER than the current ones). This is the easiest way to regain the settings without having to go into input mapper and remap everything.

This assumes you did not unplug the sticks and plug them back into different ports. I've never been able to recover after doing this. Always had to go back and remap everthing..

Salute!

Ditto, Augi. Good advice.

BEFORE you do a mandatory "downgrade", copy the settings folder to a safe place. Should be in main WB folder or in the Mac "resource" folder, then move the sucker. Hell, put the stupid folder on a thumb drive to be completely safe.

You can even download the whole WB program from scratch and then use your original "settings".

Warbirds isnt the problem... it's my Windows 7 User profile...... like it was erased
Like it is starting over for the first time.

some shortcuts arent there, My photos / documents etc are all empty as if its a new user with the same name.

ugh... that is probably correct. I remember seeing the icon of the antivirus in the tray having a red mark on it but didnt look at it. (thought I probably needed to re-up for the new year... it's about that time)

afterword Windows talked about an "event"....

I think your stuff is still there, just unseen. Have you tried using a DOS window to search your C: drive?
