So, have we used the B29 in an S3 yet? I thought so but I never have so testing today I was confused.

Is there any way to take off with 75% fuel and (20) 500lb bombs? How about (12) 1600 lb'rs?

Have all the Buff pilots practiced (at least once) taking off with a B29? if not PLEASE DO! With (12) 1000 lb bombs I could do it as long as I left 1 notch of flaps on for a long time. Dont take the flaps off too early or you will go swimming.

Am I doing something wrong?

Couple of notes for the people in the know. I did this all off line in the free flight. There is no way to try in the S3. Iwo has a 10000' start.

This reminds me of the B17 issue we had a short while back where you couldn't take off with 1600lb bombs either. Everything online says the standard load was 20,000lb but no way I could get off the ground with 75% fuel (the min. per the rules).

Salute!

Problem is all the gas. Sucker will fly a long long time with that much.

The Iwo rwy is very long, and even with a light load of bombs ya gotta use all the WEP and roll to the other end, heh heh. Looks like some pics on History Channel of the real deal at Tinian.

The 29 climbs a bit slower than the Fort, but faster. Best climb is well above 150 mph according to my tech order, like close to 200. However, with all the recent tweaks by the FM cabal, we just don't know.

25,000 feet and above is O.K. if the buffs have 45 minutes or more to get there. Teal world was likely over an hour and I don't have the rest of the tech order with charts and such.

As I am as unsure of the FMs as anyone I have left this up to a bomber feedback on if a low airstart is needed to get airborne. Traditionally this has not be welcomed as it makes form-up very scattered.

I would say for now no airstart is fine.
With the 1000lb bombs it is fine to take off.

The S3 Arena is currently set-up for a 20 thousand air start for fighters. Just to say it, with that as a starting point the mission has "reasonable" duration.

The B29 takes off just fine with 40x500 and 75% fuel. 1 notch of flaps and BST1. Gear up settle out and then raise flaps. No issues on my end.

You can test this OFFLINE
by typing
.fldat fl2027 in the buffer. That is the same FM as in the S3 arena.

Testing for Sunday's Event IN the S3 Arena is not currently possible for meeting at the RP. Apparently the bomber launch point and/or altitude is still in play. The fighter spawn is at 20 thousand going 180. Fuel burn tests, fortunately, have the proper FuelDiv. Those calculations can be accurately performed. The Event begins in 27 1/2 hours.

Same as most of the week. Fighter launch at 20 thousand, heading 180.
