Banzai!

Enough of this historical stuff!!!!

We WB folks already know the limits and capabilities of the enema planes. The P-40 dudes on Oahu had no clue about the Zero. But they were fast learners.

This series came close to reality with Frame 1 except for the DAR. Sheesh. 99% of every aviation history student knows that the U.S. had a single DAR on Oahu that could not determine altitude or even number of planes. The report from that single site was ignored as the IJN lined up.

Did the U.S. get another 5 or 6 radar sites the next day capable of detecting planes down at 500 feet and have a resoulution of 2 miles or less? I don't think so.

So the U.S. uses f12 up north and other bases. They know the actual history.

So this old fart feels we have used up our historical stuff and now just have to fly for style points. Hell, I am about to post this on the main forum. Stop me before I do it.

++++++++++

I am really against going back to Ford Island.

We had our chance in Frame 1 and then in Frame 3 ( when enema lites knew our tactics before the switch).

I vote to let the lites have at it and we lowly bufs hit stuff up north for fun and practice.

Respectfully Gums, I disagree. We do a Pearl Harbor Scenario once every 15 years. I for one would like to be part of a virtual recreation of it, on either side. Let's have some fun and hit Pearl.

Quick question...

What are our expected counts?

If NS and RCAF go as Zeke's how many do you have?

How many buff pilots will that leave us?

Then I still have the 4th and 352nd...am I missing anyone else?

100th/ae??

Initial thoughts..

SEAD group-
RCAF..NS...and AE/100th.
A6M with bombs...would like maybe 1 from ns and RCAF to take a d3a1. Primary target is 2x88 on west side of f11 Ewa...secondary is 40mm on ne side and 2x40mm at f9.
Make them think Ewa is the target..

I would like a d3a1 or two with you and its ai to aid in the deception. If any US fighter sees ONE val then that will draw the US to you.

Strike group-
The buffs and 4th and 352.
Following you by about 3-5 minutes... At alt of maybe 10-12 k. Once we approach battleship row the buffs will launch ai at about 30 sec intervals. Buffs pick out ships and attack...egress is to west over land north of Ewa. Beware of limited ack if sead group doesn't get it knocked out..

As a reminder... The buffs dont have to tuck in tight on Ingres if we are jumped inbound. I EXPECT you to turn fight. Once the p40 slows down its vulnerable. Same for egress..you are to turn fight to the west if engaged and the fighters will come to you.

Ok...comments....

Jman I liked the initial plan. We have the momentum and we have the opportunity to have more Zeros with NS/RCAF flying them. True, fewer bomber would be available for Ford but if we are looking at a two sortie night we need to make the most out of the first sortie.

I'm not liking the idea of using us as bait to take out just a few guns that we can easily avoid anyway. Not to mention the idea of splitting the fighters forces making it probably unlikely that NS/RCAF could provide a sizable strike package in the north for a second sortie. Ewa and Ford island are only 6.5 miles apart. Making them think Ewa is the target is really not gaining you much.

I would propose maybe having NS/RCAF fly a nose bleed sweep of the north showing our presents but not allowing them to draw us into a fight. Correct me but can't we climb and stay above them with these zeros? If we orbit the north coastline than maybe we can draw some out allowing the initial buff group to get to Ford. Then we could migrate down south staying high then come south to support the egress and draw and high cap even lower. If we see no opposition early we can always head south early to make sure we have numbers high enough to help overwhelm their defense.

If you are still worried about the guns at Ewa I would have Hawk assign 2 to 3 pilots to command wing men to strike while passing over Ewa. They will target guns there and still leave a few for Ford. The guns at and over Ford are not that bad.

A fighter killing first sortie we allow us to conduct a strong second sortie to 4/5.

These are my comments....you are the frame CO and I will follow your orders. If I like them or not. :-) <S>

Jman,

I will support you with what ever you want to plan. I do like the historical aspect of the raid. Whether we hit our targets or not it would be fun at least trying it. The Knights will have at least 7 to 8 buffs and 4 to 5 embedded fighters.

You plan it and we will do it!

Jman,
I agree with Dew. Our major failure on Frame 2 was having a split fighter group. The more fighters we have the better. We will be fighting P40's and F4F's this frame.

p.s. Do you need a DTF? Please let me know and I will get it done. I will be AWOL Friday and Saturday so need info today or tomorrow. Or there are a lot of other folks that can do them.
