You guys don't practice? :)

I would think EVERY buffer had maps. You had targets assigned, and back ups assigned to account for losses.

Inputs are always good to the Frame Co, but as pointed out...there comes a time to salute sharply and say "Yes Sir!"

Sticky Wicket here with them knowing buff capability, aircraft capability of fighters, and what didn't work for the badguys:)

In all fairness, Dobs, PLZ poll the lites as to how many spend over an hour a week trying performance profiles and looking at the enema tgt area and ....... I know there are a very few, but I would guess that most of the lites read the orders and maybe try a few takeoff/landing drills for a new plane.

The dedicated buff folks can't get anything done like that to be effective.

The S3 closure/point system is tough. Then there's tgt hardness and weapon effects. Then ya gotta fly for an hour to even get the tgt in your sight. Someplace the week before you fly a stalwart will figure out tgt lines and assignment for the buffers that show up. A map or two and pictures might be distributed - most buffers will download, and a few will actually fly a practice. Fuel and range and timing will be done using estimates or actually flying the profile offline by the stalwarts.

Make no mistake, we're trying to get some points and such for this series. We just gotta come up with something that exploits the strong points of the buffs and the lites WRT plane set and tactical planning.

I practice S3 rides often.

I tell ya, I am worried about landing back on the CV. But not as worried as those fools on the stern watching my approach.

Like hell we do and we strive to make this available as soon as orders are clear! ~S~ :P

Practice to your heart's content. I know I'll be practicing a lot of carrier landings before next frame!!

Most lite squads I know fly S3 rides in the main when they are available.

For us:
Dawger makes maps for us--we take orders from here, post on our forums and break them down into orders for our guys and what the plan is.

Orders are given to practice flying, taking off with 100% plus drops, and landing....and ditching:)

But it was a poke in fun in all honesty:) Based on Gums comment of "To close a field requires all buffers to have tgt maps and designated tgts to hit and practice before showing up Sundy night. We have to destroy every stinking tgt that counts on the "show file" annotation for closure. It's too many - like 100%. Sheesh."

Besides the carriers, there are 2 towns that have airfields, those would be 5 & 10.

Indeed.. both pretty hard to close.. harder than the LAFs and MAFs and score the same as a flak unit :-(

Just a thought or a blonde moment, has anyone suggested sending in the strikes from two or three different directions?
Say one grope from the North, one from the East and the other from the South, timing it to arrive on the outer ring of
Truk at or around the same time, that way they may only chase one group leaving the other two unmolested so to speak.
Staying with the fighter sweep by the bigger squads, and still leaving 127 Wing as escort for tow or three of them/
