Is sitting on runway considered "launched"? He have our 12 man limit for airborne ops but it might be worth screwing with their heads if we all went otr but didn't roll.

It counts in your stats as a launch. We are supposed to stay in tower until jabo says go.
There were some random "I didn't know" guys going OTR early frame 1. Gotta follow da rules....

I was downed by the 352nd early in the frame..so I CGI'd for the 100th & AE's..I watched as the TBD's came in NOE..off dar. From the S.popped only 5 or 6 miles from F20..Their tgt's was shipping. Lucky for us allot of our forces was near F20 rtbing at the time from the fight NE & E.with enemy fighters..they was unproctected ..other than the buff group that has their own fighters..And they were quickly dispatched being low?.
I kept jumping into twr's on the outer rims to give ack reports to squad as to alts the ack was firing.to relay if friendly or foes near..

From my prospective I believe it was a useless loss of a fine squad..sending them out on scouting..I don't think in frame 2 that you will see the. Buffs Un escorted again in frame 2..I say have the 12 grab west stay high..use the scrambled squads to get the F6F's to come low to us to protect their NOE buffs..then move the 12 in over the top..

Just my 2 bits worth

Looking at the frame 1 summary:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1177

For as horrible of a start we had sacrificing our large scout force for essentially nothing, we really righted
the ship and did fine as the frame wore on. Now that we don't make that scouting mistake again frame 2,
and keep everybody inside the atoll "baitball", with squads stacked high, medium and low, we should be good.

You guys are fantastic. You identified what went wrong and found a solution. Discussions like this make planning much easier.

I post to those of you who work with the Allies regularly - what changes in tactics do you expect from their POV?

In the Frame 1 summary, Jabo wrote (paraphrase) '...the Allies need to figure out how to get the T/S BDs in safely...'. I suspect this is a focal point in their planning and discussions. What would you do as a strike package to minimize losses and ensure your assets can launch their weapons?

I will give this another day for discussions, then have a prelim out Thursday in this thread, then the final orders out Friday.

Tentatively, I plan to stack our units so that our response is in the vertical and not horizontal distance - the Bait Ball.

And one more thing...in its own post...can we attack the USN Carrier Group?

By rule US Cv's only cruise in the no fly zone on the far east grid. Can't be touched by rule.

As far as what they'll do, their strikers got crushed while the fighter boys stayed high and dominated.

Look for a more tiered USN the 2nd frame. I'd fly 3 tiers, High, Medium and low (close escort) to get my TBD's in.
Their Frame 2 CO has to respond to his jabo squads screams for more close protection.
However.....
By not throwing away one of our best squads early on, we'll pack the atoll with way more fighters than they saw frame 1.
Stack the atoll with high (our initial "scouts"), medium and low groups and patiently WAIT.

Sooner or later they must come, to find the entire IJN and our ack.
Should be some good fights, along with some long waits. Just refuse to engage above 30,000 ft. That is
where they dominate.

I wouldn't even think of trying to take a CV down with nothing but zeroes.

I would mention I am a bit scared with just staying low, although with high cover it wouldn't be as bad. The reason is I found the Hellcats incredibly dominating in the vertical fight. So a smart Hellcat looping through a bunch of Zeroes without high cover would be bad.

I recently retested the planes in this series with my test scripts (http://www.errthum.com/warbirds/flight) and the Zero was neutered at some point since 2007. As mentioned here, the Hellcat can out climb the Zero and remain faster while doing it. My tests showed that the Zero had a higher ceiling, but found out that could be false security. I fought Todzla on the very edge of the ceiling (33-35k) and I could not shake him as he would do these vertical loops and dive and hop maneuvers that I could not maneuver quick enough around. I was losing angles to him with every series but luckily my wingman Timos came to my rescue and shot him down (with 40% of his ammo) when he made a mistake and stalled while putting some bullets into me.

Anyway, rambling, but I think forgetting the scouting, staying inside the ring, and stacking in layers are all good ideas. Fight our fight, not theirs.
