Salute!

One thing for we buffs to consider is taking slightly less gas and using a higher climb speed.

- better RoC regardless of speed if less weight

- better range if climbing faster than "best angle" ( 135 mph or so). So 145 or maybe 150 mph for the Fort works and using power settings we had Frame 1.

The tactical turns need only be 10 or 15 degrees to screw up the HO's. "head fakes" for bogus tgts takes more than that and wastes time/gas.

352ND = P47 SWEEP/ESCORT/RECEPTION (CYAN AND ORANGE)
4TH = P51 DIRECT ESCORT (GREEN)
23RD = P51 DIRECT ESCORT (GREEN)
K o Ni! = P51 DIRECT ESCORT (GREEN)

Any other FG not mentioned in P51s please.
Thunderbolts are ok but with the limited range but we only need 1 big squad of them.
We need to get the buffs to target.
If they die on the way home its not as bad as if they never get there to drop.

Will do what ever is ordered but here are some observations and suggestions.

Buff route is 803 miles. With B17s its going to take us 210minutes - That is really pushing the border of our T-30 start. Plus it will be 10 minutes too late for the trailing group.

if we fly about 20 miles south of the purple line as it starts, and take a more direct route back home we should be able to shave off about 40 miles in all saving us about 10 minutes. which brings back trail group at just about T+180.

The lesser we turn the more time we save.

From other thread......

Salute!

Orders too soon for all to digest and excrete.

Th North Sea route does nothing. LW is way back and can't be a serious thret until well feet dry.

Go straight with some tac turns. So save gas and get there sooner.

If TOT is the mission, then take max loadout to have ten minutes of gas when landing.

REMEMBER!!!!! THE BUFFS and others CAN LAND SHORT OF TAKEOFF FIELD.

Gums opines.....

The buffs have at least 160 miles to get to alt before they can expect any enemy contact.

The LW will be set up and waiting for you due west of Berlin to clobber the RTB buffs.
Running due west kind of plays into their hands but depends on fuel/time

if it helps at all..

B17G with 60% fuel and 500lb bombs at fuel div 0.75.

Take off 100% throttle +BST2 - CS 145mph
(Maintain power + BST2 until the 5 mins runs out at 5k, then switch to BST1)

After 12 minutes you will be at 10,000ft

15 mins = 40 miles travelled = 12,000ft (eng tmp 134)
20 mins = 54 miles travelled = 15,000ft (eng tmp 137)
28 mins = 77 miles travelled = 20,000ft (eng tmp 141)
33 mins = 93 miles travelled = 23,000ft (eng tmp 144)
35 mins = 101 miles travelled = 24,000ft (eng tmp 144)

At 24k level maintain 100% throttle but turn off BST to allow engine to cool.
212 mins fuel @ cruise power - 100% throttle. Ground Speed 232mph Weight 57,300lbs

We only need 55 minutes to get to 26k. If tot is the objective then we SHOULD fly the B24s with 1600lbs bombs.
