Here's the summary from Frame 2:

New map up for Frame 3.

IJAAF entered the fray in Frame 2 with their Ki43s putting a maximum effort over Port Moresby. The Oscar proved an unpleasant surprise for the defending fighters at Port Moresby which were overwhelmed by superior numbers and quality of aircraft. The IJNs attacking Vals and Kates were not so lucky suffering 39 losses to the defending fighters at Moresby and along the Kododa Trail. The higher flying G4M1s proved too fast and escaped interception. Their bombs were damaging though closing 92 and 93 at Port Morseby and 76 to the north. Allied B25s were out in force to retaliate closing 67 and heavily damaging 83 late in the frame escaping a hornets nest of angry IJAAF with the help of timely P40 reception escort. During the night daring P39s snuck into the Kokoda Trail and plastered 77/78 with hundreds of 37mm shells strafing and bombing their way up and down the steep valley. But in the end the mastery of the Ki43 proved decisive forcing the Allies inferior P40s and P39s to either die, run away or stay grounded in Australia.

For Frame 3 there are four closed fields; 67, 76, 92 and 93. Which will remain closed for Frame 3 and open in Frame 4.
IJN based upon their success at Port Moresby will try and invade Milne Bay with a large invasion fleet of DDs and FRs steaming past Goodenough Island to 103-106 area. This needs to be protected all the way until T+160 when it will unload. The IJ will need to CAP it with rotating cover as well as keep the three main Allied airfields suppressed in the area. There may even be a few foolhardy Allied DDs in the area attempting to delay the invasion fleet. The Allies need to attack the fleet with all possible aircraft. Moving ships are a very good source of points.

Will update the summary when the S6 posts.

Notes
- arena AAA was not very effective at Port Moresby, it could be either the total amount of AAA in the terrain or the traditionally low settings use for S3s. Ki43s should not be able to loiter low in the area without serious fireworks. Arena settings will be adjusted up slightly to make low approaches to locations more difficult. This is a global setting and will effect attacks by either side on terrain locations.
- AI otto on the Kate and Vals seemed to be weak enough to encourage attacks on them. Vals reported to be particularily hard to down but no complaints on their otto. G4M1 otto is still out for debate as their were not many organized attacks on them. B25s late in the frame were attack with 1 out of 8 player and AI bombers being shotdown, otto effectiveness was not observed by the CM in this case.

Good Luck in Frame 3

Opening the thread for discussions. I was not expecting to see an invasion force for this frame. Note - Goodenough is OPEN this frame.

Jabo is forcing our hand for Frame 3 by introducing our Invasion Force and his subtle 'Allies need to attack the fleet with all possible aircraft.'

Bomber Guys - Have available a plan to attack Goodenough again. This may NOT be your primary objective - I just want to have it ready to go if the situation arises. While at it, prepare a plan for an attack at Milne Bay and a third plan for a return to Port Moresby. Be advised...you may not have the luxury of full fighter support as we have to protect the fleet, too.

Fighter Squads - Prior to Fr. 2, I wanted to knock out the Ki43s in Fr. 2 AND 3. However, with the mission to support the invasion force, I think we will need some Zeros with harder hitting guns and longer clips. I may ask one squad to fly a second frame in the Ki43. The wrinkle we are facing is that Jabo stated we need to CAP our invasion fleet for the entire frame...yet the path of the fleet is totally within the Allies radar and coast watcher radar. The Allies WILL know we are there and will know the path of the fleet.

More throughout the week.

Sentai 127 would like to use the Ki43. It has lots of legs and we can stay over the fleet the entire frame. ;)

Ok Here's my 2 cents..

Summary: Let's close down Goodenough again. 95, 96 & 97

Details:

Knights & UMM move out of 52 & 66 respectively fly East, and make their way to Goodenough islands taking the scenic(not) route and slam it at
T + 140 or so..

Fighters (all of them.. even the embedded ones) - get out the 81 area and kill all greedy boat hunters.

Yes it's going to let the bombers be un escorted, but we can get enough alt that they are not a bother. Single sortie night!
What about other attack groups that will close our fields? -- What attack groups? :x

Here's a picture of roughly what Im thinking about will run numbers on this tomorrow.

The Knights can take care of 96 again and even drop some on 97 if we have enough bombs left.

Noflyz, usually Jabo posts a "frame summary" thread that includes set up info for the following frame. This time it was disguised under KT Frame 3 Map

Sakai, Allies were bitching about the usability of F88, one can land there, just need to be a little slower. Anyway, if this is on their mind some sort of operations may still come from there. Maybe the fighter sweep could have a few groups swing over Moresby to see if they catch anything or possibly give the impression we still have interest in the area even though we could hit east.

Just a couple thoughts.

The Allies killed 24 ai aircraft in frame 1. They killed 39 in frame 2. And most of the allied fighters at Port Moresby were killed. If we don't send some fighters to Port Moresby, the Allies will have a turkey shoot on our ai bombers there. They also hit 77 pretty hard. We could send some fighters to 77 just out of their radar range and see if they hit it again, and then have them cover the ai's into Port Moresby. If you watch Dob's video, their plan was to kill ai's and then dive to their ack when the fighters showed up. We initially stayed high in the fighters over Port Moresby to be in position to cover the manned bombers when they arrived. If we don't bomb Port Moresby, the fighters won't have to worry about staying high. There is a problem with Jabo bumping up the ack. The Allies were attacking our bombers when they were over their bases in their ack. A quirk of WB's is they can fly over their ack and not worry about being hit, but the enemy they are dogfighting can be killed by it.

In both frames 1 and 2, our bombers would have had free reign in the second half of the frame with no opposition. It seems planning for a second sortie from the bombers would be judicious. I do think the bombers need an escort combined with a fighter sweep to Goodenough Island. The sweep could also cover the invasion force.

It would be the preference of the 352nd FG to fly the Zero in Frame 3.

Happy trails...
