Being on strike mission I don't often attack other planes as we are trying to avoid others.

How is it attacking the G4M this go round?

in my mind this plane should be easy to shoot down because of what I have heard/read historically.

example:
Quote:
The G4M was designed for a long range and high speed at the time of its introduction. Consequently, several weight-saving measures were incorporated into the design, such as dispensing with self-sealing fuel tanks and armor, which caused Allied fighter pilots to give it derisive nicknames such as "the one-shot lighter", "the flying Zippo" and "the flying cigar" because of their tendency to explode or catch on fire from any slight damage to the wing fuel tanks after being hit by aerial machine gun fire or ground-based anti-aircraft fire. Similarly, pilots of the Imperial Japanese Navy despairingly called the G4M the "Type One Lighter", "The Flying Lighter" or even the "Hamaki" ("Cigar").

I understand that it is fast and difficult to intercept, however I am under the impression it would flame up easily.
Last series I attacked HE111 from under, behind and above, I was getting pinged right away at about d8... if those had been 20mm ... I'd have been toast.

What did those who attacked them see? I realize there is a 20mm in the tail, with auto settings as normal I would think it would be a death sentence as it seems the otto is very accurate in frames past.

Think that about sums it up. The otto is crazy on the AI.

I am not sure if it is a different setting for AI buffs to Player buffs. When we fly, our otto seems to do nothing but like you said, the AI otto hits solid at D8+

As far as I'm concerned, we may as well have been hitting B-17's. The otto fire was crazy. Jabo has advised that he has dialed it back a bit. Guess we'll see how it goes. I keep reminding myself that the goal of the folks who run the event is to make sure that both sides cry equally loud. To that end, I'm sure they other side is crying about stuff as well, so it's all good I suppose

Bomber players have a high bufftuff and decent otto so they should be difficult to bring down. In the S3s bombers are attacked by groups of fighters and need the toughness to have a chance of survival. All bombers need to be attacked from the high port or infront and not from the dead 6 or rear beam. Player driven bombers are worth a lot of points and should be treated with great respect.

AIs are pretty stupid so it doesnt seem to matter much what the skill setting is but a high gunnery setting with a compact formation as the G4M1s had made it almost impossible for decent attacks to succeed. I did see lots of high 6 attacks but even the ones from the side and front were getting dinged mercilessly.
Its a bit of trial and error on my testing to get them right but we are almost there. I think they behaved relatively properly last frame but they still get stuck on hillsides and miss most of the targets.

From a post by Jabo. He is dialing down the otto some on AI's only....

Just an FYI!

Remember AI mbls do not have bufftuff. As you can see from the posted videos even with super deadly otto the G4M1s were shotdown. Its important to intercept the AI because it forces the IJN to cover them and its a great source of points for the allies. They also come in at lower altitudes between 20,000 and 25,000ft not up at 29,000ft where the player driven G4M1s can run. You will have a hard time attacking those with the iron dogs.

Once again check the arena to see if the G4M1 mbls are running if you want to attack them. From what I understand the damage model in the offline mode may be the same now as the MA settings so you could in theory practice bomber ambush there.

The Vals and Kates are retarded so once they attack a postion look for them to be on the water swirling around and over time make it back to home scattered all over the place. Some even get trapped on hillsides and crawl along. You have permission to strafe those :) Good points there if you can get to them. In the first frame the IJN covered both sets of AI very well and the A6M3 was very fast on the deck so dont stay low on the AI for too long or you will be run down.
