Just a place for people to throw out ideas and to see what planes are left.

Cool,
Looks like we are in a pickle. The only way to get enough points is to sink ships but we don't have any aircraft left that can sink ships effectively.

If we need 23mm or bigger to take a ship down, only the P39 and the iL2 can do it and we have none of those left. We tried to drop bombs with mossies and got a couple but not the numbers we need. Torpedo's might work but their success rate is pretty low with freighters (maybe drop them on DD's).

The boats seemed to be traveling pretty straight, do the buff guys think they can drop bombs on them? maybe with the wingman?

From previous frames, the western AI were 4 ships, traveling in a straight line. could maybe level bomb with Ju88's and then come in with the mossies to gun down any damaged ones (that worked last frame, I think). Well, we were getting kills in the buffer but the ships weren't necessarily disappearing.

Going after the He-111 seems crazy for the few points they give. the last couple (2) we went after oiled Far, took out my landing gear and took out Cools flaps. Saw others get a couple, maybe they did better.

About all we can do is send everything west and try and kill ships. Jabo told everyone thats what we need to do so it will be a little dicey. Have the fighters give us cover and Ju's drop bombs and NS trying to finish off stuff.

my 2 cents.

Really crazy thought,

If we closed 220 and somehow 28, would jabo bend the rules and let the AX overload the remaining fields or would their pilots be done?

7. Squad Basing - each airfield type has a limited number of squad steps it may base during a frame. Squads are assigned a homebase for the entire frame and must not use any other base during the night unless it is to refuel and then proceed back to their homebase to replane. If a squad homebase is closed all pilots not stuck in the tower must fly to the Main Operations Base(MOB - F28 & F21) and conduct operations from there for the rest of the night. Any pilots stuck in the tower are done for the night.

If F28 (the Axis MOB) were to close, theoretically as soon as the airplanes based there exited at another field they would be DONE for the night.

Keep in mind that the enemy can base 5 steps of aircraft at this field before any "relocating" takes place.

We have JU-88s left but only carry 2 torps each. Now if we get the cover needed. We can close F28. Risky yes, worth it, oh hell ya!

Yak-3 fuel tests: Escort buffs to MOB28 and back
(Yak-3 fuel time: 34 min at 100% throttle)

Test 1: Fly direct from F258 to MOB28 and back to F258. Climb to- and cruise at 19k. 100% throttle.
Distance: 2x50 miles
Time: 20 minutes
Fighting time left: 14 minutes

Test 2: Fly direct from F6 to MOB28 and back to F6. Climb to- and cruise at 19k. 100% throttle.
Distance: 2x53 miles
Time: 21 minutes
Fighting time left: 13 minutes

Conclusions:
* Using the Yak-3s as escort for early closure of MOB28 is doable.
* Flying at a conserving throttle setting until enemies are in sight gives even more fuel time.
* Yak-3s would have to hold their take off until buffs are at alt and starting ingress, meet up with buff group and escort during the crucial part of the mission.
* La5-FN can meet the buffs earlier and keep close escort whole mission, while the Yak-3s break off when fuel critical.

My few cents:
Yak-3s could also protect IL-2s at T+0 then land and re-up for escort, or hold in twr until escort time as the CO sees fit. Ju-88s can be used for torpedoe ship hunting after 1st bombing sortie (which confuses the enemies suspecting a 2nd bomb run). La5-FNs used remaining sorties as escorts for ship hunters, Yak-3s as aggressive protection of IL-2s.

<S> all.
