This won't be as good as Trigr's AAR's but I'll do what I can.
Haze was short 4 pilots tonight but we did what we could. We were in 110's for the final time in HOG
and tasked with the destruction of 81, 116 (both fortifications....one bridge) and 139 (a town with attached military base). We coordinated strikes with American Eagles with 4th FG providing cover and strafe backup on our targets. Thank you both for excellent comms and gci from Bombr.
At the getgo Rock, Gflyer, guest ---Nav, and Crommm upped with 500 kg bombs and hit 81 in a NOE raid with AE. 4th was high cover waiting outside their radar. The fortifications were tough but we hit them hard with bombs and strafing before bugging out. 2nd sortie was another NOE raid with AE on 81 to finish it off with 4th's strafing help. The bad guys found us on that 2nd sortie and we engaged in a running low level extraction with about 7 hurri's. We scared them a bit but in the end we lost Gflyer and Nav. Rock and Crommm managed to get away to base at 79.
Sortie 3 was a hit on 116 fortification with a bridge. Same NOE assault with AE with 4th high cover. We had substantial success but still needed an antitank gun and an arty. 4th went in an strafed them down for the close.
Sortie 4 Rock and Crommm upped with AE and headed for 139 on the coast while 4th FG kept the bad guys busy in the area. Phenix logged in and provided us with GCI. We hit the target and did major damage while 4th worked hard to keep the bad guys away. It was a quick hit and run for home.
Sortie 5 4th FG remained in the area while Bombr provided GCI. Phenix, Rock, and Crommm relaunched with AE at T+145 to finish 139. Elements of 4th continued to strafe in our absence. At about T+158 AE, Haze, and 4th FG succeeded in destroying the town and attached military base. It was not an easy strike as the target was hemmed in by very high mountains. It would have been easy to misjudge and become part of the mountain but to my knowledge no one was lost this way. Good Flying All. The bad guys came to get us after the closure but timely warnings from Bombr and others got us out in time.
This was an exciting Frame for us and I confess I thought it was a suicide mission that would not see us get past the first sortie. I was wrong. The excellent coordination and comms with AE and 4th FG saw us complete all of our assigned mission targets. Thanks to AE, 4th FG, Jabo and the boys, and DrDart the CO for a great Frame!
