One advantage the 110 does have is range, if you take droptanks. It may fair better at high alt escorting bombers on longer runs that stay away from the main enemy force.

I fear the 110 was used improperly against larger properly disciplined hurricane squadrons.

I'll bet the common denominator was they got into a turn fight with them.

The 110 is superior in "speed" all the way up to 20,ooo ft where it is equal to the 8 gun hurricane IIB. The 12 gun is still slower.

The Hurricane is superior in turn rate period. And squads like the 352 are definatly good at suckering the unaware into attrite dog fights which quickly end with them in the numbers.

Slashing attacks is the way to go while moving the fight in the direction you wish it to.
Turn fighting and staying put in location is the definite way to get clobbered.

Subject: 109 deployment.
I agree with the last CO assessment to divide 109s between frames. We have 4 frames to go. If we would have used them all on frame one we would have none now. They did a great job of impairing and tying up the hurries last frame though their numbers were limited. Imagine if after frame two, the next three frames were devoid of 109s. The hurries will be left to rule. Then watch the deficit in score.

Check my AAR but I am thinking that the way to do this is to use some 110s defensively and post the 109s/MC200s (I am going to call them MC200s instead of Ki43s because Jabo says that he upped the guns on them for this series) in a central location or nearby to the 110 strikes and bring them in to help the 110s as necessary. The Allies are "big wing" in this one with 23rd and 352nd so the idea would be to hit them when they are bingo fuel (T + 50 to T + 60 and T + 100 to T + 120) and hit them where they ain't. Two big wings can't cover many targets and they aren't going to want to split into smaller groups widely dispersed where they can't get help from their other sections in a scenario like this where they are outnumbered (we need to encourage our guys to attend, we are supposed to outnumber them but we ended up starting with pretty even numbers last frame 52 RAF to 51 LW), if we can figure out where they are, when they launch and calculate what their fuel window is we don't have to fight purely 110 vs. Hurri matchups. We can fight 110 + 109/200 vs. Hurri matchups where they are if we want, 110 vs RAF buffs defensively and 110 strikers where they aren't covering. We might even send several strike packages out at once timed to hit at T + 45 to T + 55 or T + 95 to T + 115, abort the strikes that meet resistance (since they won't have the fuel to chase us north very far) and proceed with the strikes that turn out to be unopposed. We could even accentuate our "small wing" format by sending as many as 6 strike packages which would reduce our potential losses and increase our chances of striking targets unopposed.

Just some ideas,

trigr=

Salute!

From an old buff puke, the 110 will do very well against the DR buffs. The Allied jabo lites will get in, but they cannot take down as many tgts as the DR if we let them ( DR) come in without opposition.

I am not sure about overall strategy for us. One thing in Fr 1 was the HUrri's creaming our own lites. DR's did "O.K.", but that was not the big point difference.

DR came in from F124 in Fr 1, and may try that again. But they could still move further east but not be able to bomb cols 7 to 12. My feeling is to use some 110's for defense versus the DR, but we need some escorts of some kind to help the 110's.

I do not feel that hitting a lot of gnd tgts with our dedicated buff folks is our best bet. The Knights have embedded escort lites, and could maybe try for two big tgts.

So my thots are to defeat the DR attack(s) and use our lites wisely. Don't know why we have so few 109's, but guess the Donkey wants to make this a challenge.

In next frame we could go on offense big time. But Fr 2 needs for us to stay close to "even", huh?

Gums sends....
