It's been two weeks since my post about frame IV rule breakers. I would have at least thought JABO would have explained his side to me via that thread or a PM. The axis fought frame V not knowing it was approved for frame IV. Now its been a week after frame V and still no word from him about it. So after looking over the boards and seeing he "OK'ed it" So be it. I still feel its wrong. But, if adjustments are going to be made to the rules, then they should be made known to both sides in the series.

That being said....

In frame 5 the pilots listed below again broke rule #9. But this time it wasn't for a "secret mission" near the front line. The majority of them stopped off in the quad to refuel but never went back to their "home base" before continuing on and landing at another field.

Quote:
9. Squads are assigned a homebase for the entire frame and must not use any other base during the night unless it is to refuel and then proceed back to their homebase to replane.

If rules are going to be blatantly disregarded in the "SQUAD SELECT SERIES", then what is the point of having rules or even calling it "SQUAD SELECT"? We already have all this type of play in the main arena. The penalty plane is there for a reason. Not all penalties are on purpose and I understand there is a grace period if you accidentally roll from a wrong field but correct it in fair amount of time. But if you look at the above pilots for frame V, they did not correct it.

DrDart, there was a misinterpretation of the orders, I said if DR wanted to base at F1, then the 4th would base at 77, if DR wanted to base at 87, then the 4th would be based at the quad. The 4th based a 77 and the DR's based at 87. Before I realized the error, the 4th and the DR were already up for 15 minutes. It was a FUBAR on basing and I missed it. Please accept my apologies. :(

Sorry I was away on vacation and will get to it in the summary. You cannot really assign penalty planes to pilots following orders though.

Previous events saw many errors were being made on re-basing and it became too difficult to administer it with squads switching on the fly. Now there is only a homebase and if that is not available a Main Operations Base that all dislocated squads must return and operate from. It will be stressed in HOG so every squad knows what to do if they run out of fuel or need to divert somewhere. I should have been more clear in TWF about what had changed in the rules from previous events.

TWF had a total of 20 series specific rules. HOG will have 15. Not much to ask to review and understand them before the event begins.

For Merit and Clarity........

This is not a big deal.

But, we and DrDart in particular as CO were extremely cognisant of this rule in particular. We gave up the ability to engage and to protect in order to follow it.
Its constraint was taken as gospel and adhered to.
It is difficult to then follow other rules if this is not consistent at this time. Unlike many other times when rules literally were created that had no definition (but apparently to create confusion and complexity), this ONE did and was easy to understand both historically and practically.
We as squads, if a mistake was made by CO or squad, would correct them ourselves to each other, as this rule was very clear and difficult to Mis-Understand.
We as squads HAD to make plans for fuel and return and leave fellows in trouble because of this.
We as squads had to modify our fuel use and states and give up altitude etc etc to eek out the most time to achieve goals.

I was in particular very proud of DrDart for his proactive engagement and reminders in the heat of battle to MAKE his own team follow it. It helped me to make sure my charges did the same. It also weakened us as a side because of his adherence to the enforcement of it.

Again this is not a big deal and I really could care less if any punishment is metered out as I know the integrity of those involved (meaning they had no ill will or want to break any rule), but, dammit, DrDart sacrificed and showed honor to do right for what? He could have just said screw it apparently and all would be well?

Im not exactly sure why I am going on like this. I guess I was extremely happy with his leadership that day and hate to see it (seem to) be lessened somehow.

With respect and probably just confused........
