Jabo, in this video you can see a number of pilots going down with the ship and these same pilots went on and caused more damage later in the night. My question is, Shouldn't they be dead? The S6 shows they did not get killed.

jeepny, tenryu, furnac, sycho-, artydd, ciaio. and a couple more I couldn't make out.

Wow, looks to me like they died: or had a long way to swim.

I would imagine it should be handled the same way if you are in the tower when a land base is closed, you are done for the night, but you are not killed, so they should not have been flying after hitting the drink when their carrier sunk, we could see them in the water.

Its a trade-off. The CVs could move and shoot AAA at you but they don't. So you have 2 CVs in a group sitting pretty and you have a good chance of sinking them. Or no chance. The TBDs and surviving F4Fs are part of a CV group and may continue operations until both are sunk. If you look at who scored the majority of points it was those TBDs that were land-based the entire frame. Makes it easy for accounting and control purposes but may not be the best realism.

DRDART:
I was told by JLORDJ about this video and I just got your message in the general forum about it. Thanks for showing it to me. I can assure you that when I made that statement, I was under the impression that everyone had exited as per my request prior to the ship exploding. I see that these a/c were indeed on the deck when it went down. It all happened very quickly. I had made it off the deck and was trying to reach the other CV when I came under attack and was killed. The buffer did not show that any of them had died, so I didn't know anything differently. Then, JABO gave his statement that those assigned to one CV could shift over to the other one and that's what they did.

I have already stated somewhere in a previous post that I believe that they all should have been done for the night because I thought they were in the tower when it sank. Since I don't make the rules, I assumed that there must be a rule somewhere that allows the a/c to use the other CV under such circumstances. After reading JABO's post above, I see that he was weighing the situation and showing mercy in this matter.

While talking with JLORDJ this morning, he suggested that I may want to have all these pilots fly penalty planes in the next series. I will not ask them to do this because they were only following what I believed to be true as I mentioned above. Coupled with JABO's statement about them rebasing to the other CV, they were only doing what they were told to do.

However, if it will help you to forgive the misunderstanding, I will fly a penalty plane in each of the next five frames.

Sincerely,
Darryl <S>

Thanks for the explanation, JABO. It does explain why you made the determination that you did.

I think this situation needs to be taken to the CO section. NO ONE has the right to over rule Jabo unless he has specially given the ok and he would have done that in the General section. Darryl you did just that and screwed up the last frame because you thought you knew better than Jabo. This is wrong and taking penalty planes next series will only hurts your side next time around so there is another frame screwed up by you actions.

Salute!

Yep, Hawk, gotta talk about "the rules".

If the settings allow you to lurch again, then I think most of us do lurch again.

Due to the rules in this series, many of the land-based Tubs went to other fields for a second or third strike. Frame 4 was a classic example.

We don't fly a lot off of the boats, so I can understand confusion when we have two CV's within sight of each other. Could be a WB programming issue about where you were when the CV was sunk.

The bottom line is that Jabo made the call be it a right or wrong one and we must all abide by it. Jabo made the decision and his order to fly penalty planes were ignored and that is wrong.

Hiya Hawk! No, the penalty plane order was not ignored. Vangrd, Billpe, and myself participated in a lovely scenic tour of the slot, compliments of the US Army Air Corps! While in flight, we discussed the beautiful sights that are so easily missed while zipping around in that hyper sonic Wildcat. You know... the sun shimmering across the face of the ocean, the beautiful lush greenness of the tropical islands, waves gently breaking into caps of white foam, and the stunning sight of the metallic glint bouncing off of the wings of those high Japanese fighters, frolicking amidst the fluffy white clouds. Wait... IJN fighters? Holy cow! If they see us we're done for! Much thanks to our 4th FG escorts for drawing the attention away from us!

I agree with Gums - if there is further discussion on this topic, I hope it winds up being the CO portion of the forums so that the rest of us may remain bliss via our ignorance of the hoopla.

I know each side wants to win, scores are kept, rules are there for a reason, and all that, but I hope that everyone had at least 1/2 as much fun during the tour as I did. I had encounters in all of the frames. Some I came out victorious, some defeated, some just a draw, but each night I hung up the head set having had a real blast. So much fun to participate in these events. Great folks to fly with, and great folks to fly against. I continue to be amazed at the skill of so many of you, and the lack thereof on my part. Looking forward to the events that will eventually come up where we will have the privilege of being able to fly with with you and the other dedicated axis squads.

At the end of the event, I received way more fun for the buck than should be allowed!
