4th FG will have 4 members of the 334th rolling C-47's. Unless instructed otherwise, I plan to roll from F28 NOE to 19 right when the whistle blows. Should be a 12-13 minute flight one way. Assuming I don't wind up flying into red scouts or worse, I hope to be good to go in a F4F-4 by about T+30.

My main concern is whether or not I can get the C-47 back on the ground at 28 without clipping an exploding tree, or some of the other assets that are parked entirely too close to the runway. It would be a shame to make it all the way to F19 and back and then get killed during landing.

Sorry, my error. However, we still need to know WHEN you may wish this to occur. The point made, however, is accurate. As the Frame progresses, the CV gets further and further away from those bases.

DEWOLF: The plan (posted in first post of this thread) calls for our TBDs to destroy the enemy shipping and return to the CV. It will probably take us about 50-minutes to reach the northern area and the time it takes us to find the enemy carrier group would be added to that. As we approach the area, we will coordinate with the 352nd, so that your fighters will be able to time your take-off to arrive at the enemy CV just before we do.

Secondarily, there will be C-47 penalty planes to be flown. Who, when, and what?

DEWOLF: The 4th FG will coordinate with the four pilots who will be flying the penalty planes. All of the Doolittle's Raiders pilots were removed from the penalty plane list, therefore, they will be headed up North with the rest.

Please test whether you can make it to fields F38 and F40.

Assuming that F-38 and F-40 will either not be assigned to anyone, or you plan to vacate them, we "should" be able to make those fields IF we can refuel, rearm on the CV prior to departure. We would need the use of both fields if we aren't standing down following landing. If there is any time at all remaining in the Frame once we land, it would be our intent to fly until the very end of allowable time.

DEWOLF: According to the plan, F38 and F40 are utilized, initially, by the Night Stalkers and Doolittle's Raiders. Once they leave those fields, they will not be returning under any circumstances. The fields will be clear for the 352nd to base their continued operations for the remainder of the night. If all goes well at the enemy CV, the strike force will return to our carrier group under the protection of the 352nd. We will orbit the CV until after the 352nd has landed, refueled, and rearmed for their trip south. We would expect that you will coordinate with the 4th as you are approaching your new land bases for intelligence reports concerning any enemy activity in the airspace around them. After the 352nd has left the CV, the TBDs will land on it. We'll assess the time remaining and whether making a second sortie is necessary and/or possible.

Thanks for your input. <S>

Thanks for the timing. <S> It is critical to us as our F4F-4s only have 48 min. of endurance at full power. We also have to place CAPs over both boats and attempt to scout the enemy CBGs for you. Our recoveries for refueling and rearming from our preliminary duties prior to the buffs arrival will of necessity require close coordination in regard to the actual timing of our target area sweep.

Happy trails...

Dewolf........everything really depends on how the nips play out the frame. Strike goal is committed to attack the enemy CV group. This is based on our fuel state and launch point limitations. Our TBDs will have about 140 minutes before we go the way of the Malaysian flight. This allows us to creep up to the area giving you guys time to scout and or react to the intentions of the enemy. If as we think...the enemy decides not to press attacks on the CV group as it did last frame our TBDs have plenty of time to coordinate and position in an area that allows the 352 to fuel and CAP the CV prior to our intended mass coordinated attack. Of course this is based on the knowledge that we're thinking of this as a single sortie frame much like a deep bombing raid to Berlin. Hence the need for us to land back on our CVs since we probably won't have the gas to make the land bases.

Now if the enemy decides to stay the course and does commit themselves to attack our CV you will have to respond and we (the strike group) will have to decide if we can manage an attack on their group which would be difficult due to the steps of Zekes that would be in the area. Our options at that point are several land based static shipping targets while you guys dance with the nips not covering those.

The idea of the step swap totally depends on the enemies desire for points. If they come after our CVs they are giving up the series and just playing for fun...which is cool and a possibility. It makes so much more sense for us to expect them to go after static shipping in the Slot (for the points) and leave our CVs alone which of course would make your re-base so important. But only if they appear to have no assets in the north.

Hello Sir Darryl <S>

Having only just received my first s3 bus drivers license this week, I'm not sure on how to best deliver my cargo of troops to F19.

I just logged in to the S3 and it does appear that we have external views with bombers (tested TBD), but C 47s are not yet enabled. Can anyone (hello JABO) confirm this IS the case?

Also on the most recent Muzz map the closest field F28 (27 m from 19) on our side of the front lines, F28 is not yet operational for Greens. The next closest field F38 is 50m away.

Would it be best to stagger our four transports 5 min apart, or fly in one or 2 groups so we might be easier to protect (if we have any CAP at all :? )?

Do ALL 20 troops have to make it to the tower? (ie no "splats")

Also note there will be no inflight food service on this flight, so tell the grunts to bring their own peanuts.
