Communication intercepts warned the LW that another Circus operation would occur. Six Bf 109F-2s and one Bf 109F-1 launched from the airfield at St Omer (F53) to try to spoil the RAF's party. The first Circus of the day consisted of a pair of Blenheims (one player, one AI) and three Spitfire Vbs. Not exactly the "cloud of fighters" AOC Fighter Command was hoping for. One of the Spits had to turn back because of technical issues (DISCO No Damage). The remaining pair of Spitfires pushed into France, seeking combat. After a patient wait and not knowing where the Circus was heading the LW stayed in the St Pol area, keeping their distance from the Spits. At last radar detected two contacts over the Channel north of Dunkirk. The target was Merville (F95)! The Jadgfleiger raced north from their patrol area, closely followed the the pair of Spits. Diving from altitude the 109s were able to get past the one Spitfire on close escort. Working as a team, two 109s short down a bomber, but the RAF Flight Leader was able to nail a trailing Messerschmitt Bf 109F-2. The remaining Blenheim appeared to jettison his bomb load in tried to make a break for home. He never made it as three 109s pounced on the lone bomber and shot it down in flames. With the bombers gone the LW fighters struggled to disengage from the pesky Spitfires, but another 109 was shot down. Eventually the Jagdfleiger disengaged and landed at St Omer (F53) adn St pol (F92). After rearming and refueling, and a swap of radar operators, the LW took to the air to await the RAF's return. Just over an hour into the frame the RAF sortied once again. Two Blenheims (player and AI) escorted by three Spit Vbs were the core of the Circus, with another Spitfire still sweeping over the continent. the LW were caught a bit out of position as the bombers this time were attacking the airfield at Abbeville (F111). The LW arrived too late as bombs were already falling. One hangar was lightly damaged by near misses. A Blenheim paid dearly, falling from the sky after an extended attack by a BF 109F-2. A swirling dogfight developed over the Somme Estuary with Spitfires seeking revenge for the loss of the bomber crew while the Jagdfleiger sought to disengage. In the melee an overeager RAF pilot lashed out at a 109, only to hit an other Spitfire with his cannon shells. Heavily damaged, that Spitfire was forced to crash land on the coast with its pilot doomed to sit out the war in a Stallag Luft. With the RAF heading home, the LW recovered at Abbeville. After a quick glass of schnapps in the Mess they were back in the air. The third sortie of the day for the RAF was again two Blenheims, this time escorted by three Spit Vbs and one HurriIIb. The target was Merville. The RAF escort was tighter and getting to the bombers was more difficult for the LW. One bomber fell to the guns of a 109F-2, but a 109F-1 fell to the guns of a Spitfire. Two other fighters collided with both the LW and RAF pilots hitting the silk. The last Blenheim pressed on to the target, dropping two 500lb and 4 100lb bombs. Nine different structures were damaged, and one fuel dump was destroyed. The bomber attempted to escape, but three 109s attacked it and its escorting Hurricane, shooting down both. Flak-Abteilungen near St Omer also shot down a Spitfire. The frame ended with a lone Spitfire egressing on the deck, harassed by a horde of 109s. Although repeatedly hit by the frustrated Jadgfleiger, its pilot was able to escape.
