The transfer of additional IJA Ki-84s to the PI tipped the scales of A-A fighting for the first time this series.
Ki-84s scored 29 kills for 12 losses in A-A combat.
The F6F did not fare as well as in earlier frames, scoring 10 kills for 11 losses in A-A combat.
Overall for A-A fighting, Axis scored 30 kills for 18 losses.
However, when losses for all reasons are tabulated, the Allies suffered 39 aircraft destroyed and the Axis suffered 32 destroyed.
Allied Battleships were overly aggressive positioning themselves close ashore to support the amphibious landings, but paid a hideous cost. A combination of Kamikaze attacks and deadly accurate fire from Japanese shore batteries sank all four battleships, scoring the Axis 60 VPs. Amphibious transports also paid a heavy price, with 13 ships being sunk.
Their sacrifice was not in vain as the troops did get ashore. Heavy ground fighting inflicted serious Allied casualties, but three objectives were achieved, scoring 60 points for the Allies.
