I am sure it would not be expected but that is such a long route. When would we first be on radar? However, my biggest concern is the idea of using fighters as a diversion. I am not thrilled that the number of fighters needed to make convincing radar blip would leave the bombers under protected. At some point the fighters would need to change course to rendezvous with the bombers and fighter cover. Luftwaffe will use spotters that we know. Once the fighters are spotted without bombers and the spotter see the fighters change course, they will just follow them to the buffs.
I see the key to this is how long we can keep the Luftwaffe wondering where we are. I consider them intelligent enough to know that after the mauling we took last week, we are unlikely to try another split formation. We don't know what they might have gathered from their intelligence so I see two wild cards here. What do they know and how are they going to use the 262 or Komet. We know the Komet does not have the fuel to get far from their bases. However, the 262 has greater range and speed. I would use the 262 as a spotter. Fly it to end of radar coverage and set up a picket along the length of the possible entry points. Once one spotted our large bomb group it would vector in everyone else. The 262s would likely arrive first and could keep us chasing them while the rest of the Luftwaffe squadrons closed in.
So may possibilities but only one course of action can be chosen.
I would consider the long route if enough would value it as the best option.

Escort will have to plane RV carefully but this will be tricky as axis will monitor their progression with perhaps the loss of surprise. It's a compromise. Can FG's calculate fuel burn and advise?
Well, anything we can do to reduce time over enemy territory would be nice. Probably ain't gonna be able to fool em, trick em etc. I believe the jets are limited in number, experience in flying em is low, once gone or lost, that's it. Rocket planes perhaps more numerous but with a 5 min fuel load they will spend almost 3 min of that getting to alt, throttle back and glide in using rest of their fuel for escape/evasion/attack. Best bet is getting them on their climb out. They won't take off til the BG gets close to one of their fields, like within 10/15 miles, climb speed mebbe 150/200 mph to get max alt straight up and in front or the side of the group. Will have to get them as they climbing. Does intel have any info on their jet/rocket plane strengths?
Agreed about time over nme territory, however, that favours straight-in approach which imho will give axis time to develop and coordinate an attack. Coming from the south whilst is longer over axis held areas, put BG's closer to target I believe, before we're spotted on RADAR. The southern approach is a longer (aka boring) flight but are we re-enacting an attack with something like the real times in the flight deck or just having a bit of (serious) fun.
not sure how us reducing our time on their radar gives them more time to coordinate an attack ...a longer approach on their radar would do exactly that...give them time to put together an attack? Or......did I miss something?
Not sure which comment you're referring to sleepy, imho, less time on radar gives axis less time to plan and implement an attack which favours southern route. I'm not sure if Robert is going to veto that plan and forces the direct approach which will, again imho, allow axis much more time to plan and hit the bomber stream in addition to less time for bombers to gain altitude.
