Frame 3 FAE First Sortie: 4th - Field 161 Heavy Fighter of choice RCAF - Field 167 Heavy Fighter of choice 23rd - Field 99 2 B25s balance Hvy Fighter of choice DRs - Field 163 B25’s 500#ers
We have to keep 99 from falling back into Axis hands, which can be accomplished by closing 97. We should try and defend 99 from closure if possible so we have future use of the field…there are only 2 ack guns, one 20 and one 40, defending 99. The strafers can have it closed fairly quickly if unmolested. We also need to try and not lose as many airframes if at all possible this frame…I know this series isn’t conducive to it, but try ; ) Note: Using the terrain (i.e. staying low) on approach for landing from the East and for taking off headed East at 99 is very doable. Remember also the the 88’s are not real good at hitting low flying targets at a distance. Also of note, the Axis have done no planning as of Saturday afternoon.
I will be in tower for awhile and updating the radar picture. All of us will be converging West towards the 95/99 area. Only one Axis squad can launch from 91. They will be the first to arrive at 99, the earliest being T+ 7-8 and they won’t have much alt on arrival unless they take more time to climb. As the situation allows we will work as long as we can to close 97/98/96/95. The other Axis squad can be at 99 with mid alt in 20 mins or so I figure. Depending upon Axis reactions our bombers may be re-directed. Alternate targets are 103/104 for now. Once you launch you can refuel/replane anywhere. After the First Sortie the situation will be fluid. RTBing at 99 should be done with extreme caution of enemy fighters. Don’t get stuck in the tower there, or you will lose that airframe when you move to another field. If you have no orders re-up heavy if possible and start climbing back to 99 area, you can jettison later. Ask for targets if none known to you.
23rd - I put the 23rd at 99 because sleepy has practiced closing 97 in record time, under 3 minutes. 23rd will launch at T=0. 2 B25’s balance heavy fighters. Heavy fighters will head out East then climb to divebombing height to hit the 20/40 at 97 or any nearby 88’s. Once the fighters drop they will grab and head West to incoming Axis from 91. Our bombers will re-up and hit 98, etc.
4th - Launch T=0 Heavy fighter of choice. I want you to use a super fast climb speed and high tail it to 99 area. You should arrive at 99 area with no more altitude than you need to drop on remaining 88’s so that you get there quickly. If more alt is needed(enemy action) I’ll let you know and you can jettison(at least some can). The Axis may arrive shortly before you, but they won’t be able to be high until others follow later. Once light grab in the area West of 99 if you can, or fight if you have to and there is an advantage. See Muzz’s graphic below.
RCAF - Launch T=0 Heavy fighter of choice. Head direct towards 99, fast climb speed. Your orders depend upon where I send the DR’s, either 98 area or 103/104. The DRs won’t be above 6-8k as we need them sooner and lower rather than later and higher. You should cross paths with the DRs at which point I may ask you to jettison and escort or forward sweep, or hold bombs and drop on the ack guns at 103 + 104 to silence them for the DRs. Be ready for a change of plans. Also please check for the ack gun locations at 103 + 104. offline if you have to. Either muzz or I will hopefully upload a graphic of 103/104 below the orders.
DR’s - Launch T=0 B25’s 500#ers. Launch 163 head direct towards 99 to start with. Fast, like 200mph climb speed until we see how radar develops. Minimum alt needed is 6k. We need you to hit targets earlier than later so don’t grab too much. You will either hit the 98,95, 96 area or be directed N to 103/104. 103 is best when lined up E-W and 104 is best S-N. I don’t expect you to rtb at 99, to easy to lose airframes and points of bombers. RTB 161 unless the easterly Axis are capping it. Future targets will be decided at that time.
See you in the skies!
Any mistakes, questions chime in. God knows I’ve made a few somewhere.
