no summary yet, but I'm not sure how much that info will change things.
RANDOM THOUGHTS:
Looks like we are going deep, either Berlin or Leipzig. (there is still an aluminum factory in Frankfurt I believe)
I'd like the bombers to be in B-24s but I think most of our buff pilots are fighter pilots so we are stuck with the B17.
I don't see any advantage of splitting our forces. It will be much the same as frame 4 with the big monster group trying to stay together as the LW picks away at us.
I saw several excellent attacks last frame by head on diving below then coming up right under the bombers with some smash and making quick attacks. Being perched above I was not able to dive and intercept before they hit the bombers pretty hard... We might need some brave souls right in with the bombers to be able to take care of that.
anyway.. please put any thoughts or suggestions here and I will try to have orders & routes out on Saturday afternoon.
Thank you all for your input.
=vslp=... I read your post frame 4 thoughts and agree that we should get moving quickly towards target with some slight course changes to keep them guessing.
Agree with all said, especially place a few (4) ftrs in with buffs. I try to set that up but the guys seem to want to chase the LW and get out of position quickly.
My one regret from last frame was not spending enough time actually flying my buff, I spent lots of time keeping eye on group and formation...otherwise if I was flying better would have ordered some 10 degree turns when cons spotted on our 12, to ruin their HO passes. HO's were murderous. IN action twas lots more work than I first thought, flying airplane, checking course, report course, alt, speed, going guns, greening up, flying plane, going guns, go external, chk formation, report course, order pilots around, throttle up, throttle down for close up, going guns, chking course, report course again, wash rinse repeat......wanted to say that because at one time I got frustrated having to report our bomber position to the lites every 3 minutes right in the middle of a fight. It may be good, to assign a task or two amongst buffers so that lead may concentrate on fewer things and do them well.
=vslp= what loadout did you use last week as the bomb damage was very effective.
I believe both sorties were 1000#ers. Two 500#ers have more damage points than 1 1,000#er from what the tables say. But that assumes you hit the same building with two 500's, not a near hit. <S>
Yes, 1K bombs, double check with jabo about taking b-24's. I think they carry more like 8 vs 6 in a b-17. correct me if I misunderstand but I am confused by the fighter pilots must fly b-17's and so....consequently a pilot who is FROM a FG would never get a b-24, even if he is going to fly a bomber all night long. I think it means, and hope it does, that a fighter pilot who is shot down and then transfers to bombers must take a b-17......or perhaps say first sorte, everyone takes b-24's and we lose an airplane, then take b-17's.. I am not sure but its confusing. I don't think its a good idea to mix bomber types in the same formation as they have different speeds and such and keeping formation would be more difficult than it is now. I'd ask for a clarification on this rule.

Something to consider: #1 Can our pilots fly a bomber box formation #2 Can our pilots fly close formation at different altitude #3 Will are pilots even try to follow orders The bomber box formation was used in the later part of the WW2 to protect against German fighters and allow maximum damage to targets bombed.
If our bombers flew at slightly different altitudes that would mean attacking fighters would have to attack only the low ones first in order to get to the high ones.
If we can develop a line of flight that would pull cons off a particular target and making them use up fuel and then switch to the real target that could possibly take them out of position and allow the bomber stream to attach the target with better bombing accuracy.
For the rest of my input I am sending an email to you. Due to not knowing how to send graphics I want to send you on the forum.
