Big Week - Frame 2
It isn’t called Big Week for nothing.
All Fighters and Bombers Based at S58 for 20k airstart. Must take 100% fuel, drop tanks or not.
We are taking our forces enmasse to draw the Axis out for the major fight it was meant to be. I believe we have the fighter strength to do this. All launch at the same time. Bombers will be level at launch altitude and will turn SE until just N of the 6 horizontal, then head 090 straight to target 1. There is no benefit in climbing for the buffs. 1st Target number 48(avionics), due N a few miles of C78. Its icon is a very small red plane, or cross. 2nd Target - will either be southeast to target number 83, icon Al, East of L75, OR we turn North to target 20 (another avionics) Its icon is a very small red plane, or cross. Depending upon bomber turnout we will either rtb directly to S58, or continue NE on to target 24 (B icon) just S of L89. 2nd sortie- Fighters can relaunch early with extra fuel and do some scouting back at the targets that are left up, or new ones East of L89, but be ready to rendezvous with the buffs at some point. Targets will most likely be back up around L89 and East.
Fighters - Airframe of your choice. Launch with bombers, it is Big Week afterall. 352nd is forward sweep/12:00 with possible loners probing for the Axis. All others are close escort, with some lower than 30K to be able to quickly engage. It is imperative that the fighter groups maintain discipline with the situation at hand. IF you go to the deck and kill them, they can change airframes and be at 20k in secs... the Airstarts up North (67 is closest to our direct route home) are about 60 miles away from some of our targets. Later in the frame a squad may want to send a few to CAP their airstart at M67 up North and West of most targets. Bombers will be at 20k for the whole mission most likely.
Bombers ALL in B17G (NOT F) Bomb loadout is 12 500#ers. Most hit points for the weight. Salvo is set to 2 and used, unless told otherwise. All bombers will fly as one group. The bomb group will fly at the launch altitude of 20k. Climbing does us nothing but waste time. ACK and guns do not garnish our side any points, don’t waste ordinance on them. We need to take 90% of the buildings down. Notice there maybe other nearby factory locations and hitting them does nothing for our side but lose ordinance. Best formation is Ladder 80, with the angle they are the closest you can get em to you. 4 direct hits will take the hardest buildings down, or 3 with a few other local bomb blasts. More info inflight otw to target. Out of time....see you in the skies! <S>

Split:
Question:
if initial route is to F20 then to F48 and F83 this would give the bombers more time to align their to their targets Just wondering

Omega, you pretty much nailed it with the graphic, unless the lw present a problem early on. Thanks for the graphic!
I understand what you are saying but I don't want to hit the first target too far up N as they will know the first 10 mins where we are going and they might just all airstart up north. Hitting center should spread out their launch fields like the first frame did. As slow as the b17 is target acquisition of 83 after drop on 48 shouldn't be a problem.
Is there now room on the board to upload graphics or do you use a different hosting service? <S>
