http://www.squadselectseries.com - new summary and individual point tallies up. Map remains the same, just added two closed fields.
The Allies decided to use the big guns in frame 4. Both B24s and B17s were moved over to France and used to clear a path for the stalemated XXX Corps. Several attacks were launched into Germany toward the supply center of Xanten. The heavies came in above 20,000ft and were heavily escorted by P51Ds. The Mustangs proved as good as promised giving the intercepting FW190D9s and Bf109K4s a difficult time. 33 Luftwaffe fighters were downed, 5 by the defensive guns of the bombers for the loss of 2 bombers and 7 Mustangs. Damage to Xanten was extensive but it remained open at the end of the day, but the nearby field of F115 was closed.
Fighter bombers from both sides were very active to the north between Nijmegan and Arnhem. FW190s hit Nijmegan and caused extensive damage to the town, bridge and nearby shipping. Further attacks by the brazen German jabos hit Antwerp and several Allied airfields. A total of 11 ships were sunk at Antwerp and Nijmegan. Low level P47s hit the airfield at Arnhem just before the German attacks on Nijmegan leaving several aircraft burning on the fields.
German losses were heavy but they outscored the Allies on BDA by a wide margin. Their pin-point targeting of high value enemy assets was the key to their success. Unfortunately this came at a heavy cost and the Allies outscored the Luftwaffe in individual points 52 to 15. This was the difference and they won their second frame in a row 180 to 147. The Luftwaffe continues to lead 640 to 601 going into the final frame.
Map remains the same except for F115 and T38 being closed. Good luck in the final frame.
