We launched and climbed to engage enemy reported on DAR. They turned out to be spits at our altitude. While engaged a hurry noe strike closed 6 and shortly after hit and closed 18. Not enough Axis cover low even though we returned to help. When waves of low wellingtons showed up we found that not even a full load of ammo fired at D2 and less could even damage them. Something wrong there. Operated from 1 until capped then withdrew to France. Goat screw comes to mind. bombr-

Did anyone from any squad shoot down a wellington at all last night? I was sitting in tower at 18 and watched wellingtons dive down to the ground at 18 (staying in perfect formation mind you) and close 18. All the while I was watching fighter after fighter putting all their ammo into them and not even a puff of smoke. Even saw a fighter hit bubble on a wellington and he went down but the wellington just kept on going like nothing. What the hell is going on?

I went after 3 different Wellingtons, and put 1/3 ammo into each from D2.5 and less.
Absolutely NO effect. no pieces, no smoke, nothing.
Same was experienced by all our squad that made passes on the Wellingtons. At least 8 of us.
Not one Wellington kill.

Wish they were same toughness as Allied bombers in last S3
You know, the one where Juice got 35 AI kills

Horrido!

The feeling amongst the buffs was the JU-88 turkey shoot was our drone attack on London or a field close to London.

Only a few of we humans were shot down and and then flew one or two more sorties. Additionally, our critter wingies suffered less than in frame 1. I personally had trouble with mine so was solo for three sorties. Got damaged on second sortie going after a boat too far after sinking two, then had to bail over homeplate.

I do not unnerstan the tuff settings but seems our 88's are kites compared to previous settings. I know Donkey-breath will claim nothing new, but he's speaking as a CM and mybe the code was changed.

The Allied dar cannot see us over our fields and halfway across the channel. Gotta chack to see if Allies thot about our dars ....... Hmmmmm. Don't tell 'em, but we'll know Tuesday night most likely.

I was the one who hit the Wellington wall and blew up with no effect on the Wellington. It was like they were impervious to damage from anything. At least two of our AI missions were Ju88's and those were the ones who suffered the most. AE's primary task was protecting the human buffs, which we did. It was not possible to protect the AI missions at the same time although we did manage to assist in Dover defence on each sortie once the human buffs were clear.

My observation:
I put lots of bullets into Wellingtons and even parked myself on an Ai's six at d2 and kept shooting. I repeated this 3 times in a row on the same Ai but not a single part fell off. Omega hit the same Wellington Ai and even collided with it. Not a scratch on the Wellington. Agree with bombr- that frame might have to be reflown, as we lost many 4th FG pilots attacking Wellingtons to no avail, getting jumped by Spits or killed by otto while desperately trying to hurt them.

<<< Scratches head

From Jabo's Frame 2 summary:

jabo wrote:

24 Wellingtons were lost during the four main attacks hitting hard at Bomber Command morale.

Was I in the same arena?
Maybe I did miss something here.
Did these all go down by ack?
From what I remember in monitoring the buffer I didn't see one Wellington credited to any pilots. I know at least 15 pilots shot almost all their ammo at these ai with absolutely no effect. A few of these guys were lost trying to kill what couldn't be killed.
Does anyone remember getting a kill on a Wellington?

I may be wrong.

I never saw a kill of a Wellington in the buffer.
