http://www.squadselectseries.com - new map and summary up

With the German invasion in full swing the fighting over Kent was fast and furious. Several brave RAF Wellington attacks on the two operating airfields in England were decimated by Bf109s with little to show for it. Low-level Hurribombers did better hitting a few targets around Dover but they proved just as good in the air to air fighting taking down nine enemy planes, including four Ju88s. They lost 11, 3 of which were to enemy flak and 1 to an friendly bomb.
Luftwaffe Stukas hit both Manston and the central Kent area around Detling and East Church but it was the fast and flexible Ju88s that caused the most damage closing the these three RAF fields and taking out the important coast radar station R89 in the southwest. They also hit shipping off Southend in the north sinking two oil tankers. Losses were high with 27 shotdown during the days many sorties.
Luftwaffe damage to the important forward airfields will make it difficult for the RAF to operate in the days to come but it was the victory in the air that would give the British the win. The RAF claimed 55 aircraft including 27 important Ju88 bombers with the new Spitfire IIs showing their worth claiming at least of 40 of those. In the best of the best, the Spitfire II came out ahead claiming 18 Bf109E4 Aa to a loss of 9 to the same.

Very close frame with RAF slightly ahead 141 to 138. RAF fields F19, F32, F35 and F89 are closed for the duration of the series.
Due to the close range there was many sorties by both sides. Ju88s landing in the Dover invasion area probably took heavier losses than they should have because of this. Lots of low-level bomber action which made fighter interception easier than if they had sortied from France and came in with altitude.

Notes:

1. Need to reduce the AI critters as they were stopping the ability of the AI air forces from spawning. Too many AI and too few slots.
2. AI aircraft were attacking ground GVs but not very successful. A number of Wellingtons went after Mk IV tanks but crashed and floated along the ground near them. Will limit AI routines to just structures and AA from now on. Stukas as well seem to go astray once near enemy units.
3. Remember if you land a none airfield you must either attempt to take off from there or are done for the night. No teleporting regardless.

We close four fields, prevent the RAF from closing our two English fields OR our English Port and we were outscored????

Its important to protect the real high value assets like the Bf109E, Spitfire II, Ju88A4s and Wellingtons. If you look at the points it may sometimes prove smarter to fly the less attractive aircraft to do the dirty low level jobs when you know losses may mount. Aircraft losses and pilot losses are what determined victory in BoB. Sooner or later someone must run out of pilots to paraphrase Sir Lawrence.
AI aircraft are all easy to down so are lumped all together at a lower value than player driven aircraft. AI routines continue to disappoint in how easy they are to down.

Thanks, Jabo. I did not do that...in many of my frames do not take 'score' into consideration. Not to say I disregard losses. To the contrary, I hate that I get everyone killed.

But no worries. You said decades ago, if no one is bitching, somethings wrong.

We'll get em next time!

No that was my fault for being late getting the point summary up. I need to stress before each series where the points are. Points are just points but they usually indicate where the designer thinks the emphasis should be. When we had more pilots we could allocate so may frames in one ride etc and get a nice mix of aircraft. Now we need to make the less attractive rides attractive relative to points. If they have the capability to score almost as many points as the better aircraft but cost less if shot down then some may find it more attractive to use. Thats the theory anyways.
