LATEST, AMENDED ORDERS HERE
Image

Thanks to NoFlyZ for the .dtf overlay map

Just so one doesn't spend an inordinate amount of time looking for the "wrinkle" in these Orders, please keep in mind that it is the intent to "give away" Midway Island while the USN is out killing sparsely-defended Japanese aircraft carriers. Until noticed differently, WarBrids is still a GAME that awards points for various activities. There are NO valuable points available for defending Midway Island that will not be used for any purpose again at any time. Additionally and ahistorically, the F2A is the exclusive fighter available to defend Midway, and pilots to fly that airplane are balking majorly, so the following attempts to keep that in mind.
Edit: Should it be the case that our "strike escort" fighters happen to encounter an ingress or egress of enemy aircraft coming to or from Midway, one would hope that our escorts would take advantage of that situation.

Bases

F-1 Midway Island--
(1) Step 352nd Fighter Group (Must fly the Brewster Buffalo). takeoff at T=0.
(2) Steps Stalkers/Nomads. Strike aircraft of choice (TBF or SBD). Takeoff T=0.

"Scout/Strike" aircraft take route of choice to discover the IJN Fleet. Fighter aircraft cap/sweep out to 60 miles from Midway Island. Fighters are the only Island defense. IF F-1 Closes, it cannot be captured. Both "Scouts/Strike" and fighters may recover there, but you are DONE for the night on wheel touch. F2A aircraft cannot relocate to a carrier, "scout/strike" aircraft may.

Lowest Number Carrier: (2)Steps American Eagles. Fighter Aircraft of Choice. Takeoff: T+45. Close escort of the Raider's Strike Package. CAP over the USN Carrier Battle Group. Please roughly "split" your available pilots between these two tasks.
Lowest Even-Numbered Carrier: (2) Steps Doolittle's Raiders. strike aircraft of choice. Takeoff: T+45. Fly direct to the spotted IJN Fleet location. Kill Kagas.
Second Odd-Numbered Carrier: (2) Steps 352nd Fighter Group. Fighter ac of choice. Takeoff: T+45. Sweep Escort "just ahead" of the Raiders Strike Package. If enemy fighter or bomber aircraft are encountered in route to the spotted IJN Carrier Battle Group, dispatch them with extreme prejudice.

Situation Overview

Currently there are only three pilots who will volunteer to fly the Brewster Buffalo aircraft from Midway. In good conscience, no one should be "ordered" to fly that airplane. (3) other brave souls are welcome to join that CAP flight over Midway. Those (3) pilots are welcome to make their desires to fly the F2A known in this thread or just prior to Frame start.

Midway-based "scout" aircraft are requested to fly "heavy". Find the IJN Fleet, and sink a Kaga before coming home, please. REPORT POSITION of enemy fleet on country channel.

At T+45 ALL carrier-based are to launch. Raiders' strike aircraft should fly DIRECT to the discovered enemy fleet location and sink as many Kaga-class carriers as possible. Possibilities of a second sortie for carrier-based aircraft will be evaluated on recovery from sortie # 1. IF Midway is not closed, fighter aircraft should expect to CAP what is left there for the remainder of the Frame. At any time the enemy is at Midway Island, expect overwhelming odds in their favor. IF there is a second sortie, AND Midway Island is still "open", the American Eagles have "strike escort", the 352nd FG carrier-based aircraft have CAP and intercept over remaining Midway targets.

These Orders assembled according to available information by -Besea of the American Eagles and "Wolf" of the 352nd FG.

Better or completely alternate ORDERS are solicited.

EDIT:
USN Fleet protection will be provided by elements of the American Eagles beginning at T+45.

Happy trails...

Aye aye!

- Gums will talk Doc into flying a heavy SBD and we shall look west before heading north.

- I ask the Stalkers to scout northwest, but that is their call. Stalkers should take the ride of their choice, as the Tub can carry torps.

- Unless the Blue Noses want to, I see no need to escort the Nomad scouts. So some Buffaloes can go out and "search" while being a perimeter CAP.

- As with the original battle, fly down the reciprocal of the heading you see the enema flying. That should get you close to their task force.

- Lastly, if unseen you might consider following an enema strike plane back to their task force. Hmmmm.... after all, they have to attack the island and cannot land there.

Gums ponders....

Stalkers will follow your lead Gums and take the North West.
Airframe will probably be Grumman TBF (torps or bombs) as they were based at Midway.

one question: Where are our B-17s????? ;-)

Aye!

Hey, Cool!

If the TBD has about same speed and such, Nomads might also take them.

One idea is to "gang up" on the boats after finding them. i.e. a coordinated attack by our heavy scouts. If not possible, then Nomads will make runs as a two-ship and possibly use torps on the Tubs. If the drones drop with leader and are in trail, a nice spread could work huh?

Gotta try the Tub and see the performance.

Gums still tinking.....

Just to clarify nobody has to base at Midway. I heard the F2A is pretty uber.

F2A Flight from Midway Island Has Been Filled!

When we can't even get a volunteer to fly the airplane, it should be evidence that "opinions vary".
That particular ac is so "torquey" that I have observed pilots who cannot even negotiate a takeoff in the airplane. That makes it that basically there will be no fighters based on Midway. One or two, IF we get "lucky" with volunteers.
The enemy "first strike" on Midway "should" be over by the time any supplementary aircraft could arrive from the carriers based in the extreme SE. Nobody is going to be "ordered" to fly a F2A, at least by this co-CO of the Frame.

We shouldn't be even considering the TBD if you are flying form Midway. There were NO TBDs at Midway..only on the CVs. The TBFs are at Midway and MUCH better than the TBD.

I will be in a Buffalo at Midway.

Aye, Jman.

I have trouble with the old Navy designations where the last letter is the manufacturer.

I shall try the "f" plane. TBF.
