Darryl, Regardless of what jabo does or does not say in regards to your request you can always fly the penalty plane (Hurri IIC) according to the rules. Just a thought.

"5. Squad Aircraft - ...Penalty planes can be flown in a frame replacing a required ride."

This observation should, likely, be in Beaver's thread at the top, but it is Frame 5 Planning related:

Using Beaver's chart, and a bit of sleuthing, it seems that the Frame 5 line-up looks like:

23rd FG: P-47D

352nd FG: Spitfire XIV

4th FG: Spitfire XIV

8th FG: Hurricane IIc?

RCAF: P-47D

Doolittle's Raiders: B-17 or Hurricane IIc

If the combined Allied Forces do not have an interested individual come forward by Friday evening, with the permission of the various COs and Flight Leaders, I'll put some ORDERS together. Basically if we do not have a bomb group for Frame 5, everybody but the 23rd and the Night Stalkers can bore holes in the sky looking for enemy fighters in Frame 5.

Happy trails...

DEW, I am all in favor of you putting something together. IF the Raiders flew hurricanes, would we be allowed to shoot down V1s? I haven't mentioned this possibility to any of the Raiders. It will be a huge surprise to them, if you allow us to do that.

Thanks

Thanks for the great idea, sir! I am hoping that Jabo will be able to give them a better ride, but I suppose we'll take whatever he offers.

Hurri IIc will not be good for V1's. Way too slow for them. If you do get a better air frame that can catch V1's you need to find, see and catch them (you need to practice); otherwise it will not be a fun night.

It is good for bombing, strafing and can fight it's way out of trouble if the 109 pilots fly stupid; the guns will kill easy.

FWIW

Personally I feel the S3's should be somewhat of a reenactment of ww2 aerial battles and operations, and not another main arena where squads disband their historical role to play and suddenly go all fighters to merge in a big furball just for laughs.

If squads want to fly fighters/bombers from time to time to mix their experience up a bit, then I fully understand this. I think however that such intentions should be stated in good time prior to a series so that there aren't any sudden changes on the fly, which would be quite unfair to the opposing side.

In this series we are reenacting the events in the european theater where the Allies were trying to stop the Axis from launching their V1's of terror, while the Axis tried to prevent these raids. I do think points are a great way to include competitiveness into the S3's and encourage smart planning, but they shouldn't hold such a sway that sides forgoe historical aspects and just furball instead just because it might be more effective pointswise. I would rather see us follow dewolf's suggestions of trying to hit targets closer to England and bring a larger and better organised escort, and find a way to win while still following Jabo's intentions with this series.

P.S. I just read dewolf's great suggestion about having the DR's in Hurricane IIC's and go for fighter-bomber attacks on Axis fields.

As a Nomad I have been flying with the DRs the past few series but I also think we should stick with the AC allocation we were given.

Not wishing to seem argumentative.....

"Reenacting" WWII with the "original cast" is really not what I see S3s as being all about. IMHO they are "reenacting" WWII scenarios with similar equipment with a whole new cast. The outcome "may" vary from the "historical outcome". I actually like that. Once upon a time, our Group, as Japanese pilots, took back about 1/4 of the Japanese Home Islands. IMHO, S3s "should" have such an outcome "possible".

It's a GAME, not a History Channel Documentary. The GAME happens to have Rules, which, IMHO, should not be violated without penalty.
