First time in the big chair for me! Looking forward to working with everyone to get the job done.

First off, I have to thank juice= for his post of ideas as I was contemplating a plan similar to one of his ideas...and he gave some confirmation to the idea.
I've been digesting the last two frames and will post my prelim idea hopefully Wed nite, no later than Thursday nite. Think about small bomber formations with some escort from differing directions to malta, with a possible strike on shipping at some point. More about this later.

As was mentioned last frame, I would also like to take a few more bombers than those that normally fly them. Give it a thought for your squad. It doesn't have to be your whole squad and I don't want to split up a squad...so you could cover your own bombers.
Am thinking about taking the JU88's outta storage for the speed. Yea, I know downed JU88's are worth more points to them. Maybe it will be worth it.
Is there anyway for us to take out enough of the defensive guns to make a good difference for future frames as "all field damage will remain down for the rest of the series." There is a disclaimer that jabo has to check manually and may "miss" one or more at times.
This could be a good setup for future frames. Thoughts frame 4 and 5 CO's??

Constructive criticism and ideas are welcome.

I kinda like the "Rock Around the Clock" tactic for the DR buffs after our lites zip in and challenge the RAF. Attack from many directions about 40 minutes into the frame.

Second, let NS and Nomads send scouts out to find the boats at T+0, then attack later. Those suckers are worth more than our LW buffs and lots easier than heavily defended ground tgts on the islands.

Just some thots...

Hey Split,

~S~ for stepping into the Chair.

I suspect the shipping will be more heavily defended than last frame. The majority of downed Stukas was from Ack...my own ditch and that of a wingie was from fuel leaks by the DDs.

I would also suspect that someone in the Allied rank will be patrolling around those small islands to the west of Malta. I would look at the possibility of coming in from the east or south - which requires an awful lot of flying for moments of action...and only one attempt due to distance covered.

I am looking forward to your orders.

Trouble is that jabo dar will report a fighter sweep and not bombers. As a result I don't think they will all mass to the fighters. In fact I think they won't be able to roll all their fighters until bombers are reported inbound, at least that's the way it seems to be happening via the inflight .room response.

Keep em coming though!

Some ideas from my AAR, sir. :-)

* When it comes to future bomber/escort missions, we clearly cannot send in our bombers while the enemy is still at full force. We've tried it twice with heavy losses. What I would have done differently is send in all the bombers as we did, but as soon as the Spitfires come in to engage, the bombers will make a 180° turn and run back to Sicily, while the escorts engage the Spitfires fiercly and try to kill as many of them as possible. The buffs will then hold over Sicily until the BF 109's are re-armed and ready to escort again. The prime objective must be to reduce the number of Spitfires before sending in the big boys.

* Alternatively the bombers can simply wait while we hunt for ships at full force and engage the enemy SW-SE of Malta if they try to protect their ships, and then start our bombing mission mid-frame once both sides have taken some fighter losses.

I am distressed by the LW feelings re: Donkey Dar intell.

If we are that worried about "inside intell" by JABO, then let's talk about it and have the rules make sure that radar for both sides is "rules" radar and scouts are scouts and no "outside" info from the Donkey. Sheesh.

Malta could have a thousand "coast watchers", but they are not 40 miles out in the ocean with cosmic radios to call our position. The DAR can only provide bearing and distance and a rough idea of the size of the raid when we are 100 miles out. As we get close to the emitter, then both LW and Brit DAR can start to see flights and formations. Altitude? Maybe for the LW DAR, but Brit stuff was not nearly as good until late in the game.

If the jainitors wanna provide all kindsa intell to both sides that goes beyond what the equipment and rules state, then we have to talk with the janitors.

++++++++

I have not seen a lot of specific intell in the buffer from Jabo DAR when flying for both sides. So where are we getting all this stuff about aircraft types and altitudes and whatever? Show me some radio buffer stuff.

Meanwhile, my feeling is to believe the DAR altitude and range numbers in the rules and plan/execute accordingly.

Gums-bee,
I don't remember whose video it was, but in frame one if you read the allied buffer as the video plays you will see that our main buff group and escorts were called out with rough numbers of each, basic altitude and direction. In fact it even stated how we were converging from east and west to merge with the buffs.
Watch the videos and read the text buffer!
As juice also pointed out in a previous thread here, there will be no feints or fake outs this series.
That's why I'm favoring the radial approach this frame...to stop the big wing tactics on one larger buff/escort group.
With all due respect.

Thnx, Split.

I could not make the first frame party due to family stuff and being TDY.

If that anctedote is true, then we have to scold JABO!!!@!@

If we could get the real arena up after Tuesday we could actually fly test missions to verify DAR limits and damage models and all kinda things. Even having enema folks at the same time would be nice as long as we didn't hve the "one life" in place.

But NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! We are basically plannning and then flying with poor intel and performance and damage ideas.

I'll try to see on Thursday if I can get an Allied spy to see how good the DAR is, or maybe we can have a Axis dude switch sides for a test.

Gums: Watch the Dobs videos from Frame 1 to get an idea of the intel the Allies get.
