Bombing ships.

we have not had success using bombs on ships.

I would try to hit them with NON defused bombs.
Last frame we tried to kill the last freighter with defused bombs since they float we tried to drop them right in front.... several went off under the ships but it did no damage. Gums said that wild bill hit a freighter with a bomb, so I'm assuming a direct hit without defuse.

Salute!

Good point, Cool One.

WLDBIL and Gums dropped many real eggs in the A-37, so we have a basic "feel" about what llooks good.

I got a ship on the same mission. Bomb damaged it, but a rocket finished it off on second pass.

Dropping the eggs is a good option on first pass if you use about 100 or even 200 msec delay, and no defuse. Defuse don't work on the boats.

1 88mm 400 pts strafeable
2 40 mm 350 pts each strafeable
1 ammo dump 1500 pts...2 bombs
2 parked ac 350 pts each..strafeable
2 hangers 2500 pts each 3 bombs eachx2=6
1 ready room 850 pts 1 bomb
7 houses 650 pts each 1 bomb each, mayhap strafe down
1 radar station 1250 pts 2 bombs
1 radar emitter 1800 pts 2 bombs
bombs must be very close, with a radius of 313 ft even if ou miss by 100ft they will do about 700 pts damage
You need approx. 20 bombs plus strafing

COOLON:
I tested the shipping using the iL2 and found that they go down easily with the 37mm cannon. I believe with 3-4 pulls of the trigger they went poof. You get 100 rounds, so that means 50 pulls of the trigger. If fired single shot, you each can each do a lot of damage.

Definitely, NOE is the best way to get to target under these circumstances. Anyone pops dar, they will vector straight toward your position.

Were you talking about getting a ship in real life? :)

Its important to check out the object hardness settings and the ground labels of a target. PDF on main site.

For example;

boats are boats(BB) in the OT setting = 1000 pts
freighters are cargo(CM) in the OT setting = 2500 pts
destroyers are capital(C1) in the OT setting = 3500 pts

250kg GP bomb does 1289 pts of damage so it takes 1 direct hit to sink a boat, 2 DHs to sink a freighter and 3 to sink a destroyer.

trucks are carriers(CB) in the OT setting = 200 pts
tanks are weapons(WM) in the OT setting = 850 pts
metal bridge spans are docks(DM) in the OT setting = 2250 pts
stone bridge spans are rocks(RK) in the OT setting = 500 pts
pontoon bridge spans are pontoons(EH) in the OT setting = 350 pts

100kg GP bomb does 516 pts of damage so it takes 1 DH to destroy a truck, pontoon or stone bridge span, 2 DHs to destroy a tank and 5 DHs to destroy a metal bridge span.
