UPDATES IN COLOR

Found out today that GUMS was not available for frame 5 CO. Quickly gathering info and requesting suggestions from all of you.

It looks like we will need to pick up 150 points to overcome the Axis (84 point deficit and the possible 65 points they pick up during frame 5). I think we could do this, or at least, get very close.

Suggested Goals:
1. Avoid enemy contact at all costs to deny points gained by killing our a/c. (VITAL)
2. Hit multiple HV targets, such as ports and fields.
3. Hit multiple AI shipping targets. We gained 51 points in frame 4. Repeat.
4. No twin engine planes will be used in case F190 gets closed on us.

Bottom line, it is a very long shot to beat the Axis this series. We have a 84 point deficit and will need at least another 50-65 points to match what they may pick up.

I am thinking that we almost have to be extremely unconventional in our approach to this last frame.

What if...

1. We put everyone in IL2, P39Q, or Heavy Fighters to attack every possible target using small groups (4-6 pilots).
2. Since VNSLP, thinks it would be almost impossible to keep F190 in play, we use the 23rd along with the other smaller groups and strike small targets.
3. We could have 10-12 small squads attacking 10-12 targets worth between 8-10 points each to pick up 80-100 points in first sortie.

Is everyone willing to try something out of the box like this?

Below, you will find the targets for the first sortie of the frame. Possible total points = 141 points

Squad Base / Target / Squad / (Point Value)

[color=#0000FF]190 / 295 and shipping (freighters only) / Night Stalkers / (6pts+)

190 / 125 (truck unit) / 6 DRs in iL2 / (7pts)
200 / shipping and 298 (light coastal artillery) - 6 DRs in iL2 off radar / (6pts+)
235 / 234 (grass airfield) / 6 DRs in iL2 / (8pts)

230 and 20 / 102 and 300 (flak battery and small supply depot) / 23rd FG / (19pts)
262 / 293 and shipping (light coastal artillery) / 23rd FG / (6pts+)

18 / 277 and 11 (light fortification and grass airfield) / RCAF 127 / (12pts)

2 / 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 (shipping at Sevastopol - freighters only) / 4th FG / (up to 54pts)

10 / 261, 48, 292 / American Eagles / (up to 16pts)

3 /193 (grass airfield) / Nomads / (8pts)

NOTE: Unless enemy movement prevents, each target for sortie #1 will be struck during sortie #2+ until taken down. Secondary targets will be assigned as the frame progresses.

I would suggest that the DR and Nomads go to Sevastapol, tons of points there and miles away from the front lines.

From Noflyz:

4x 100 KG = 2304 Damage
4x Rockets = 800 Damage
300x 23MM = 7260 Damage

So each aircraft is capable of 10364 Damage.

Sevastapol Has:

12 Wearhouses (WH) - 1500 each - 18,000
5 FacMod (FM) 4500 each - 6,500
3 Fuel (FD) 400 each - 1,200
37 LivMod (LM) 2500 each - 92,500
1 Radar Stn (RS) 1250 each - 1,250
1 Radar Hut (RD) 1600 each - 1,600
13 Wearhouse2 (EF) 2750 each - 35,750
1 Fact Complex(EB) 10000 each - 10,000
---------
166,800

166,800/10,364 = 16.09 so 17 Aircraft if all is perfect. Consider that 17 x 4 x 200 = 13,600 of these damage is from Rockets. I'd say Rocket accuracy is best at 1/4 - so 18 pilots minimum

DR has barely had 12-15 pilots each frame make it to target so far and given the holidays we will perhaps be lesser to start with.

IMHO this is mission impossible if DR are the only group going there.

Thoughts?

If you have the Nomads and the DR attack the Sevastapol area there are plenty of targets apart from Sevastapol itself:

2 Hvy Costal Artillery @ 15 each = 30 (253,191)
1 Large Field @ 20 each = 20 (28)
1 Light Coastal Artilllery @ 6 each = 6 (288)
1 Radar Station @ 5 each = 5 (37)
2 Large Ports @ 18 Each = 36 (40,41)
1 Landing Strip @ 4 each = 4 (257)
1 Small Supply Depot @ 9 each = 9 (133)
and 3 Shipping Groups, 18 just freighters, 19 & 20 with a DD. @ 3 per ship should be 12 ships minimum for 36 points.

Going up the coast you have:

1 Large Rail Yard @ 15 each = 15 (88)
1 Small Port @ 6 each = 6 (67)
1 Grass Field @ 8 each = 8 (256)

Plenty Points, far from Front.

The Nightstalkers can take their Mossies from 190 and ravage shipping and small fields and/or ports along the Sea Coast. :)

4th is willing to fly all P39Qs and hit shipping.

Please verify that we do not over-step the P39Q.

Question for buff/strikers..............should we take the 500# bomb for ships and do we d-fuse or not?

Look at the ship icons in the PDF, thats a general area of where they have been operating.
You cant overstep a plane type so the 4th is good to go.
Sevastopol is flak city so easier closer targets maybe the best option. There are several along that southern Crimea coastline and just inland. Much easier for small groups to close.

LIGHT:
Please test out the shipping targets at Sevastopol, as JABO says it could be very rough there. Perhaps, we take out the closer shipping and then move into Sevastopol for the remaining ships? I don't want to lose anybody before they can have a chance to bring home some points, if ya know what I mean.

I flew an iL2 into the area and was able to kill 5 ships. There was some ack bursting around me, but I was able to get into the two harbors at 40-41 and out again without any trouble. I lost my pilot armor, but no other damage. There are a about 7-8 40mm (on docks of port 41 and along the coastline) that you may want to put someone on for safety of others. The big gun installation at 253 wasn't a factor when I went in, but I was noe throughout the attack. You can test it all yourself and see what happens.

Let me know what you find out, please.

Thanks,
Darryl <S>

Be advised
ot list lists these targets for 73 and are on the required list for closure
light tower X2 @ 1500 pts each
Boat X2 @ 1000 pts
cargo X2 @2500 pts
warehouse X9 @1500 pts
refintank X2 @1350 pts
warehouse X2 @2750 pts
capital ( dd) @ 3500 pts
crane X3 @ 1000 pts
mline1 X3 @2000 pts
88mm ( not required for closure) X2 @400 pts
40mm X1 @300 pts
total pts required for closure
45,250

p39 Q w 1 500 lb bomb=
500 lb bomb @ 1173 ( with a 313 radius) YOU get 1173 pts ONLY with a direct hit)
37mm 38.59 pts
50 cal @ 2.35 pts
total points 3,510 ( if you hit 100% and get direct hits with bombs and shoot ALL your guns)
do the math
If each pilot inflicts 1500 pts damage we need 45 guys to close 73
We may have 12 to 15 pilots show up
Mission success probability......very low
NO, hell with it, I'll just say it......no frigging way

127 Wing orders received, just be advised we have quite a few of our lads on R & R, we can hit some of the targets, but do not make claim for complete closure of any.

OK, please don't beat around the bush. Say what you mean.

I will re-evaluate and propose several smaller targets. Please let me know how many 5-man groups you can field.

Thanks,
Darryl <S>

Swede- 416 VVS, 127 Wing,

Can you take a look at the field 11 as your primary target for the evening? Let me know of possible success rate with it.

Thanks,
Darryl <S>

Fwiw a light of 4 (2 Lead + 2 wingmen) is far more effective than 5. Judging from turnout the last 4 frames, 2 flights for sure, possibly 3.
