Easier series to Frame CO in some respects. You dont have to worry too much about who is flying what. Fighter squads pick either Yak9 or LAG5F while strike squads have to decide to use either the IL2, PE2(Dh98VI) or Boston(B25C/D) for their missions. Not trying to force anyone to fly marginal a/c this series.

Its important to note that their are basing restrictions depending on either if the a/c are single or twin-engined.
Single-engine a/c can use all field types but the medium fields.
Twin-engine a/c can use only medium and large fields.

Equally important to note is that single-engine a/c can attack all target locations and AI ships and tanks.
Twin-engine a/c are limited to the larger target locations and AI ships and tanks. A full listing is in the rules.

You will outnumbered Luftwaffe but they have the advantage of playing defense while you need to close fields and inflict damage. Scoring will reflect that the Luftwaffe have to hold the line rather than expand it. The VVS will have to be more agressive to close fields and conduct ground attacks.

Need Frame COs from 4th FG, 23rd FG, AEs, Nomads and Raiders. Again those players that like to Frame CO may put their names forth offering to take a squads slot.

Post any questions you have and please do your offline recce of the target locations, they are almost all different in some way or other. Some are almost impossible to close and others can go down to a couple determined fighters.

Thanks for being patient with all the changes at the moment.

Salute!

After the update I logged in to the S3 arena and the Crimea was there and flight enabled.

Very detailed terrain, and if we thot Japan was having update rate problems and such, this one looks about the same. Many, many fields and tgts that are close to each other.

Gums...

Thing to remember that this is a 256mile terrain while Japan Islands is 406 mile. This is the mother of all terrains with 300 field and 8500 objects, doubt we will see one so full. Its being used to test several unknowns and in the next version we will see roads. Have to test without roads first as there is an issue with FPS with them.

There are several tactical targets that would be excellent for heavy fighters and IL2s. The three fortifications at 277-278-279 are quite easy to down as they consists of bunkers, 75mm ATs and light AAA. Landing strips like 281 and 283 have a few parked a/c, huts and fuel so again are easy to close with single-engine a/c.

Its important to note that all field types closed during play will remain closed for the series. So crucial airfields should be attacked in frames 1-2 for full benefits of them being closed. Key fields for the LW are 181 and 21 which are medium fields and can only base twin-engine a/c. Close these and their limited strike assets are forced to fly 110s and Ju88s from 28.

Also important to note is the indicators for attached bridges. Most bridges are 3-4 metal spans indicated by the dock OT class but there are a few with many spans of stone(rock OT class) or even pontoon(pontoon OT class). You have to take these down to close the attached field.

The VVS have the advantage in medium and large fields being close to the action so the Pe2(Dh98VI) and Bostons(B25C or D) can get in the action quickly and with the cloud cover operate at low altitudes.

If you have any questions just ask.

Good Luck

Salute!

As usual, ground target contrast and airfield contrast, are too low compared to the real world.

If the average pilot could not see a runway, grass strip, big one, small one, from 4 or 5 miles away, then should not have passed the physical.

The number of fields and objects on this new terrain could cause problems with some folk's front ends, as well as the iEn server messages to us. So we all have to be able to take a joke, heh heh.
+++++++++++++

Appreciate the "clues" from the guy with the Donkey. Also the ability to fly the real terrain online with unlimited lifes. Hope all the damage models and weapon effects are as they will be once the series starts.

Some of us have already looked and flown a mission or two. Later today Gums and Wolf will check the aircraft damage models, mainly buff tuff. Kinda nice to have a "friendly" enemy for the good of our hobby.

Gums.....

@Gums
Suspect we will have Low Clouds
The Russians did a lot of dive bombing / low level attacks
Photo Recon is probably important

The danger is to be bounced from above by the 109s who will be sitting there capping the targets....
The 109s wont want to be caught low because their main advantage is at alt.
