This is a good point. In the reverse when we fought in this terrain in The Kokoda Trail it was 1942 with P40s against zeros it wasnt until the Allies did not try and fight the zero big wing but skip around their CAPs and escort did they started to do well points wise.
A large advantage to the IJ is that they are defending and can count on better ground reports outside of the coastwatcher areas. Dont get sucked into fighting near a coastwatcher the Allies can at least see your grey dots on dar. Stay off coastwatcher dar and wait for the enemy to make a mistake or show a lack of coordination. The Rabual Raids will be long flights in and out of Rabual so dont rush to fight to the death over the key port. Let them straggle apart so there is not one united big wing but a good number of stragglers. Just in real life the IJAAF cannot fight the Allies toe to toe at this time of the war.
