Per a discussion in the CO board, Beaver is taking Frame 1 and 475FG is taking the last four frames so this series is covered in the CO department.

It looks to be lots of fun with no GPS and new flight models.

Dawger, was doing some practice in the S3 today and got an oil leak at field 66. Figured no sweat and headed south to field 67 before the engine seized. Made a ditch right next to field 66, I was looking up at the tents and prop was almost touching the area where water and land meet. Exited the plane and "=wilz= killed by ack weanies".

So I surmise from this that any ditch that isn't at a field with a runway is going to be regarded as a kill.

Hopefully Jabo will see this and also weigh in on ditching.

I don't mind loosing the aircraft and being done for night, but loosing a life seems a bit much.

That is not the way the rules are written:

"17. Safe Ditch - if you run off the field and ditch within 2 miles(10560ft) of the tower the ditch is NOT awarded a kill. It is assumed that aircraft and pilot can be salvaged."

From what you said, he was certainly within 2 miles of the field.

Its possible he had not changed the distance to 2 miles yet in the S3 arena.

His original rules were 500 feet and that setting may still be there.

I will test it in OPLOST and let you know ASAP.

2 miles is what has been in use in AFMA and OPLOST for quite sometime.

Tested in OPLOST. Ditching in the water off the end of 66 with damage from Ack resulted in no kill message. I imagine Jabo just had not updated the settings in S3 yet. Once set ditching within 10560 feet of the tower should result in no kill message. 10561 feet will generate a kill message. Land on the runway whenever possible.
