S3 #57 - MacArthur's Return - Philippines Winter 1944 MacArthur has landed in the Philippines making a triumphant return to the island of Leyte where his forces battle stubborn Japanese resistance. Japan has strong naval and air forces in the region and strikes back against the supporting naval carrier groups and foothold the Americans have in the Philippines. To help against superior American a/c and pilots the Japanese use their strength of purpose and unveil the Kamakaze or Divine Wind. It will be a battle without mercy for both American and Japanese pilots.
This series simulates the events in the southern Philippines where US landings could and did happen on several islands in the chain. The Japanese must be ready to repulse and destroy any new assaults while keeping the presure on the main US landing at Leyte. The Americans must expand their bridgehead at Leyte and launch a successful invasion of another Philippine Island to keep the Japanese on the defensive so the main landings at Luzon may be possible farther north. It is a simple series of rules where sinking ships, shooting down a/c and destroying bases earn each side points. MacArthur's Return runs on June 21, June 28, July 5, July 12 and July 19 in the PTO terrain. |
