S3 #51 - Big Bold Jugs - ETO, Summer 1943 The USAAF is testing the mighty Luftwaffe with heavy bombers escorted with its newest fighter, the P47 Thunderbolt or Jug as it is affectionately called. After initial growing pains and attacks on French targets the 8th Air Force turns its attention to the major cities in Western Germany. The Luftwaffe is battling on all fronts and begins to recall units for Reich Defense in an effort to bloody the increasingly bold American raids. The Fatman's honor is now being challenged by both night and day attacks. RAF Bomber command keeps up their increasingly devastating area bombing attacks but losses to their aircrew begin to reach alarming levels.
This series is a strategic bombing event with four day frames and a final night frame. P47s battle intercepting Luftwaffe fighters and everyone is trying to save or wound the bombers. The Allies win by keeping their bomber losses down while causing heavy damage to their targets. The Luftwaffe wins by knocking down as many bombers as possible before they can do damage to their cities. Big Bold Jugs runs on Sept 14, Sept 21, Sept 28, Oct 5 and Oct 12
