Yeah, the roles of the lites needs ruling by Donkey. NEED DONKEY RULING

OTOH, my looks at history showed Zero lites attacking airfields and such. Ditto for Jugs strafing trains and such in Germany. So I see no problem with the lites dropping some eggs or otherwise strafing ground targets.

We have used lites many times to clean up a field when the buffs could not get all the pissant targets down. Huh?

Euphemistically speaking, if there is a tool in my toolbox, I wouldn't feel badly about thinking I could use it.

Believe we utilized fighters with bombs for the first two frames, so that ship may have sailed already. Agree we need designated targets, Kates with the torps hit the ships, Kates with bombs hit the ground targets. Was frustrating the first frame to line up on ship, drop your torp, only to watch as the ship you had targeted was blown up by a bomb.... Although the torp did take out a mooring pier :)
And we all should arrive on targets pretty close to the same time...

Good thots Swede and Wolf.

My vote is to go with the intent of the roles and the Zekes are primarily A2A, but can still drop an egg or two and strafe. I do not think we should frag Zekes for a primary strike missions.

We need the ruling from JABO.

The attack at Ford island is a problem. Our first frame problem was our strike timing was so damned good that bombs were dropping while torps were zipping along. We also had some funny run in lines that crossed Ford Island from NW.

The 23rd and 475th know what we did. So my thots are to come in from the SW or SE while the UMM and NS is hitting up north.

IF the targeting of the radar towers is successful, while it is certainly the case that the defending fighters know your ingress route from the first go around, they certainly won't be able to have their GCI advise them where you are on the way back home. If the strikers utilize the "drop and get out of Dodge" technique, the enemy ship-borne fighters can't catch you, and the land-based fighters have to fight off your fighter CAP over their fields. Taking the most direct route from Oahu to the "no fly" line, then seeking the carrier wouldn't be such a bad idea. (ie: fly 270 upon release) Going "direct" to the boat from the target keeps the strikers in jeopardy for a LOT longer time. The 475th CO should love the opportunity, as his pilots will actually have to get a visual on the strikers to be able to shoot them :)

11. NO FLY ZONES - US a/c cannot attack IJN CVs and IJN cannot attack US CVs. Both groups are considered too far away from each other.

If the precedent of fighters using bombs is already set than by all means we should use the fighter squads to assist on the first strikes. Two pilots per radar is enough to bring the radar emitter down. I see in wolf's pic above he shows a radar circle coming from 10. I just searched 10 and I see no radar there. We need to make sure we know where they all are!

Sorry, Dew, ERROR on my part. I grabbed that graphic from the Wolf Archives. The F-10 radar got moved to F-7 by Frame 2, and you guys killed it. Present image is CORRECTED.

For consideration:

Hawk for timing I made up a quickie dtf map with 20 mile ingress lines to each of the 3 primary targets, 2,5, and 14. Each of these lines orient the B5Ns down the runways for optimal targeting. Flown at 91% power the time to drop is right at 5 minutes. I was using 10k as a drop altitude. Each squad could be holding just outside of the start ring waiting for whomever is the overall strike lead to determine that everyone is in position. Fighters squads will have 5 minutes to cover and CAP all airfields while the bombers are running in the ingress lines. Individual pairs of fighters tasked with radar destruction will also be orbiting their assigned radar array waiting for an away call.

All bomber group leads calls away on the buffer...that way everyone knows the buffs are done. Ford Island (F14) is ships only so there will be no close message. We will be looking for close messages from F2, F5, F6, F7, F21, and F23. Where ever there is NOT a close message we can quickly bring is support Zeros to finish off remaining targets.

Timing can be adjusted but since this is a free first strike we should sprint the bombers as fast as they can to their assigned start circles. The Knights would have the furthest to travel.

UPDATE

Nofly will be TDY, so Gums and Pd will help coord the Mover strike.

We prefer F2.

I will post a practice "mbl" file so we can practice carrier ops using S3 settings. And trust me, I tried offline using the "instant action" carrier doofer and the FM is different than the S3 and more. Dammit.

I like Dew's plan. In short, we do our best to set up frame 4 and get most points we can on the surprise attack.

The other side lites know what we did three weeks ago, so we have to really make them guess. Ya think?

For once, I think shutting off the DAR might count. Then there are the bases on north side of the island.

Don't know how effective our Norden drops were at Ford Island, but looks like they were pretty good. And the torps were really good from all reports and BDA.

Gums, The UMM just dont have enough pilots to close F2 in one pass. Especially if Noflyz is AFK. I think 5 has less targets.
