~S~ Gentlemen. Simple orders for Frame 1.
The Allies have limited number of land bases, however, I suspect they will have an equal amount in carriers when measured by step value. Point wise, the Carriers net us the most, but will likely be heavily defended by the squads assigned to CV duty. Additional targets for this frame include the AI shipping 10, 11 and 12 in the north and 7 in the south. Tertiary targets are the military base at San Jorge (46) and the seaplane base at Tanambuli (47).
TK Scouts will patrol the sea north of the 5 latitude line up to the 9 line searching for the AI Shipping and the Northern Allied CV group. Jg77 will search the southern sea south of Guadalcanal and west to the 5 longitude line. The scouts will NOT engage initially. Their primary mission is to locate the Carriers and AI shipping, report back the ship type, their Posiiton in Grid format and their heading, e.g. "Transport ships, 10.0.5 hdg 330", AND stay on station until the strikes and support come in. We will determine during the frame, the best target and attack time based on scouting reports.
Knights of Ni!/Knight Fighters/RCAF - Roll bombers at T+0 and climb to altitude between 4 and 6 kilometers (13-19 kft) Fighters can roll later but must position themselves over the bombers by 2-3km. Rendezvous at the 5.6x and await vectoring to targets.
23rd and 100 - Roll fighters with drop tanks and have two-three of your pilots take drop tanks and bombs. Take up a CAP position on the northern portion of Santa Isabel from the 8.5 to 8.6 cross. You will be vectored to support attacks on the Allied shipping or on the two fields in the southern part of Santa Isabel.
Jg51 - Roll fighters with drop tanks and have at least two shotai (6 planes) with drop tanks and bombs. Climb to the 8.8x and take station until vectored to either the northern Carrier group, northern AI shipping or another location determined by frame progress.
Thoughts
I am wanting everyone to have a successful frame. Too many times in the IJ series, we get slapped around and sustain heavy losses. We have the better plane matchup IF YOU FLY SMART. Once you get to altitude, level out and get fast. If you have an alt advantage on the F4s, you can keep that advantage and still attack...just remember to fight UP. You all are paired with another squad to improve your numbers for mutual support.
Watch out for venturing into the Allied Coastal Watch area and dar.
The frame will be a lot of flying for moments of terror. We should all be above the Allies by the time we engage and fight on our terms. Do not dive out - that is their envelope.
Nice plan and write-up. In the last series these two met it was quite close. Those 50cals are still frikkin huge but now the SBDs and TBDs are easy meat if found unescorted and the F4F doesnt soak up thousands of 7.7mm. So its best to fly smart take the shot and come back to take another.
