The initial Allied attacks were to the west and north of the narrow toe-hold they had on Sicily. Allied fighter-bombers hit troop concentrations in the face of determined Axis fighter cover along their front lines. Rising from their airfields beneath smoldering Mt. Etna the Italian Macchis and their German allies fought the enemy to a stand still. Even a late attack by RAF Wellingtons against the port complex just north of their front was met with strong resistance. In the early battles 21 Allied aircraft were claimed for the loss of 4 Axis. Undaunted by their losses the Allies continued to support their troop advances inland all along the front. By the end of the night a key position in the north and west was destroyed then later captured by their forces. The Luftwaffe tried to hit back with ground strikes of their own but though supply lines were damaged in the west no position was destroyed completely. A further 62 Allies were shot down and they claimed 22 more Axis fighters.
Allied losses were very heavy from the many low-level combats over the front lines, 83 to 26 Axis, but they did manage to capture F101 and F122 to offset their losses. The Axis won frame 1 mainly due to their attrition to the many Allied attacks, 177 to 147 points.

Notes:
1. Some complaints on the ease of which the P38s lost their tails to the Macchis. All files should be the same as the MA.
2. Bombers continue to be shot down relatively easily. Again not sure of the cause but it has been a widespread issue for a couple years now.
