Don't forget: The Nazi Me 109s didn't have cannons yet and all 109s before the the "F" model didn't have self sealing fuel tanks.

Both items below from "Jane's Fighting Aircraft"

The Bf 109E-3 had a provision for a 20-mm MG FF cannon firing through the prop spinner, however the cannon had proved unreliable, due to overheating, and was seldom used operationally.

A Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 captured early in the war was not equipped with armor or a self-sealing fuel tank. (also in this pdf "Exploding Fuel Tanks" found online under "bf 109 fuel tanks")

Trying to design around the latest FM revisions. The new FM team have done a great job in a short amount of time correcting lots of errors and issues. Still need to revise the Hurricanes unfortunately so BoB is off for awhile.

The E3 variant had the MG FF and IIRC was released prior to BoB.


But I have not found any information on the Self Sealing fuel tank. Fence - If you have some links available, I would take a look.
