Chuck '-vadr-' Grimes has passed away. I don't know all the details, but he has been in the hospital since December and had run into various complications, but it appeared he was going to make it. He was 66.

For those that don't know, Vadr helped set up the original parser for scoring of S3's during the WB2.x days. I believe he was CO of Jg2 as well.

No obit yet, from his son though on Facebook:
Quote:
At 9:11 on March 22, my father died.
My father... he was a great, great man. He was very smart. Very strong, and wise, and very loving to his children. My father had served the military for 12 years, gaining experience that he couldn't have gotten anywhere else. He had four wonderful children, my little sister Savannah, and my two half-siblings Shawna and Nick, each living successful lives. He was a master technician for computers. But the best quality that my father has ever owned... was the fact that he had common sense.
But he was by no means perfect. He smoked, and drank, and didn't follow a straight path in life. He's hit rock bottom before, and he has learned from his mistakes. That's what made him a great man, a fantastic leader... and a wonderful father.
Friends, family, work acquaintances, I have created this post in honor of his memory. I ask that you remember him for who he was, and that you please pray for his family. These are certainly trying times.
I wish I could've had more time to build computers with him, launch rockets with him, go visit more museums with him. But I am very, so very thankful for the time that we had together.
The least I could do as his son, is to honor him by remembering him. As a soldier, as a teacher, as a man. As Chuck Grimes.
As a father.

This one hits hard at home. Vadr was one of the best. At a time when the JGs and Allieds were very polarized and each series saw many inflammatory remarks posted he was the voice of reason. Always helpful and willing to give his time to make WarBirds and the S3s better. I can see why his son and family loves him so much. We have history here in the lives that lived this game. It is nice to see great players were great both in the sim and outside.

Blue Skies Mr. Vadr.

Thanks for posting this, Phenix.

I dropped by these old haunts to let everyone know about Chuck's passing.
I wasn't sure how many of the old hands were Chucks FB friends

He began WB in days of yore with JG26 before starting JG2.
It was with JG2 that I flew with him in many of the S3s starting with Rommel's Last Stand in 1999.

Complications from a long bout with pneumonia that we all thought he'd beaten.
I saw him in late January, shortly after his 54th Birthday, He was recovering well and optimistic about a new life of fitness.

His was always a voice of insight and reason. His friendship a boon to all who shared it.
