127 (deak, swede, yukone, beaver, and muzz,) and 8th, (weis) rolled from 180 in N1K1-J George’s and headed to patrol area at 186. We spread out and patrolled in pairs looking for low attacks. At about t+30, buffer called enemy aircraft to the east, we were vectored to intercept. Grabbing hard, we were only at 20k, when they went past around 25k. We pursued and grabbed, engaging in a few running fights with f4u escorts. Eventually we got to alt and engaged the b24’s. We killed 2 b24’s, but the buff ack was tough. =weis=, swede, beaver and Yukon all bailed, 3 safely. Deak was flamed, but made it back to 182. 2nd sortie, grabbing to re-engage buffs, deak and muzz both killed by enemy fighters near 183.
