That lone B25 was the exception. There was a problem with this model and the CA interface that caused them not to keep formation. They rest had to switch to lancasters to get their AI off the ground. B25J probably needs fixing though I know the B25H worked in a series not long ago.

After each frame I post a summary and the results are not what are being reported during a frame. If anything there should be cries of the uber P51D since it devasted the Luftwaffe in frame 3 and not the lone B25J or the Lancasters. Bomber pilots are starting to get the hang of the CA interface but intercepting pilots are not. The four plane formation needs to be pecked away at. All you need to do is cause the AI to leave formation and they can be cleaned up later. Too often I see dead 6 attacks on a 4 plane formation hammering the lead plane. S3 otto is much weaker than the MA but there are 3 wingmen so even weak otto is strong in that tight of a formation. Break the formation by knocking out the weaker AI wingman then peck away at the lead. It is easier said than done but the days of shooting down 40+ bombers a frame are over.

51, when well flown is an awesome platform. It was in its element..high and engaging and disengaging at will.

So here is our situation...Interceptors do a good job and hit bomber stream en-mass (Malta)....kill bombers because escort is engaged or stripped...and the next time around Bombers are flying battleships, Douhet is having a wet dream in his grave, and everyone is going WTF?

What it seems like to me is you are not allowed to do well.... If you do, then the settings change to make it "fair"....what is really happening is the guys who actually did well are getting punished. There was a reason why RAF Bomber command went to night time bombing....losses were unacceptable.

Make your settings before the start of the S3 season...stick with them. Then everyone knows the constants are constants, and we have a situation where if you run a successful strip and engage on the bombers and escorts....you will probably get alot of bombers. If you don't...well you'll pay the price if you press the attack. But whatever the scenario, at least everyone is aware that what worked last series should still work this series....

..the days of shooting down 40+ bombers a frame are over....how many V1s have been killed? 100+?? What is the RCS of a V1? How successful were they at being detected by radar? Yet they show fully on a map with straight lines between launch sites and the target...

In late July the pointy heads came up with millimeter wave radar and put A station at Dover....this helped them detect the V-1s and they would have airborne interceptors which dove down to catch the V-1s. Swamping defenses was the way most V-1s made it through after that..

I don't remember the exact figures, but of all V1s aimed at London something like
25% made it to London
25% were destroyed by the RAF
the rest were either taken out by radar guided flak belt, barrage balloons or simply failed.

Aerial radar interception was done by nightfighter mosquitos but by all accounts they didn't need radar so much because the bright afterburner made them easy to see at night.
