http://www.squadselectseries.com - new map and summary up

All good plans fail in the face of battle. And so it was for both the Allies and Japanese in Frame 3.

The Japanese were putting all their hope in defensive Ki84s\J2Ms and their young but brave Kamikazes. No attack by regular bomber forces but a massed interception group would meet the hated US B29s over their homeland. Meanwhile on Saipan a few units of diehard Japanese made a surprise attack out of the ground and managed to interrupt the latest B29 mission to Tokyo. Only half of the bomber group was airborne before the main airfields were shutdown until the Japanese banzai charge was rooted out. These few B29s were well escorted by P51s from Iwo Jima and they fought their way into the Tokyo district hitting three aircraft factories and causing widespread damage over the area. But the Ki84s and J2Ms were effective taking down 10 of the large bombers while loosing 35 to the US bomber group. 11 escorting fighters were shotdown by the Japanese but the P51s held off the interceptors over a long battle away from Tokyo to Iwo Jima. While this fight was happening USN corsairs hit the farthest enemy radar position F175 and destroyed it.

The Japanese plan of using Kamikazes late in the frame was derailed by a late start, set to leave at T+120 there was delays in getting formed up and by the time they found the CV group much of the USN were in the landing pattern. But this Kamikaze strike was escorted and a vicious fight ensued over the American Task Force. Fighter losses were relatively even but 10 Betties were splashed into the ocean but not before a late torpedo hit the USS Enterprise on the port side forcing her to slow as she took on water.

Japanese won frame 2 by only 1 point and lead the series 287 to 272.

For Frame 3 the US is moving back to the USN operations area in the west.

Pilots that must fly a different plane in Frame 3 than they did in Frame 2.

NOTES:

1. Kamikaze attacks will be called off earlier if it appears to the CM if they cannot make it in time to hit shipping targets. Do not wait until the hour to launch these unless you know the exact location of the CVs and they are within striking distance.

2. Do to some squad turnout problems on the Allied side the bomber pilots remaining may get a second life. Just depends on the bomber turnouts on game day.

Of Mountains and Mole Hills......

I think I've noticed twice now that my handle has shown up as =-dazed. Correct handle is -dazed. I would not dare to pretend to be worthy of wings.
