Talked to the guys in the squad. The 352nd killed 28 of the 37 allied bombers downed. They said about 90% were killed within a few minutes of shooting them, and the other 10% was unknown.
As can be seen in the video, we were making swarming attacks on the bombers. Those two 50cal guns became four, six, or eight.

And btw Dobs, I ejected just short of halfway through the frame, so all the bomber killing I saw was in the first half.

I made a couple passes on one bomber AI. One engine started to leak. Escorts chased me off but the smoking bomber fell out of formation and crashed into a mountain minutes later.

Maybe this also accounts for the high losses of AIs.

You are missing the point I believe... They aren't being counted the same.
The AI do not land a damaged plane (that a real pilot could land). IF the AI would land, if able, then the extra AI kill wouldn't be recorded when the real pilot exits his plane after landing.
At least that appears to be what is happening to some.
Kinda like an AI script ending and kills are recorded for damaged AI, which we know happens?


What the bomber pilots might attempt, if they are flying in an undamaged bomber, is jump to their damaged AI and land it. The undamaged bomber (which is now the AI) wouldn't show as a kill. It might be worth a try.
