Good evening.
This is a plane comparison I've made for the upcoming S3 event "When Titans Clashed".

Luftwaffe fighters:
Dangerous above 15k to us. This is due to good speed at alt and very potent guns, especially the Fw190A-4. The IAR81C (Fw190A-1) is a low threat though, decent guns but bad turn-rate and slow speed, kill it at sight! We can fight the LW up to 25k, so no need to be sitting ducks at 5k even though we excel below 10k. Attack bf109s from low six as their back view is bad.

Our fighters:
*LA5-FN: Escort and longer missions. Has 73 minutes of fuel. Good turn fighter, excels at low alt. Semi-decent guns & cockpit view. Same speed as LW below 10k, but slightly slower above 15k. Requires very smooth handling.

Yak-3: Defensive A2A missions. This is due to low fuel-capacity. Otherwise our fastest & best plane. Can outrun anything below 15k, and fly as fast as the LW at 15k-25k. Outturns the bf109G-6. Great cockpit view.

P39Q: Ground attack missions only. Can defend itself fairly & outturn the 190s, but use it for sneak attacks on vehicles/ships/bases.

See you all in the virtual skies.
Good luck and good hunting gentlemen!

reduced half a star on La5 turn rate after more thorough testings

Re-calculated guns effectiveness based on experience and testing.

Love the research that went into this Robert. If you have something for other a/c I would like to link it on the S3 page or host it for you.

FYI propellor torque is modelled backwards on the LA5FN, should be right handed and is left handed. That is the major force since the engine precession in a short crankshaft radial is relatively weak.

Thanks rock, dewolf and jabo. I've tested and ranked all the planes in Warbirds (Will re-rank with new FM releases), and even made a beta webpage (http://www.wbplanecompare.com) some half year ago. However I have no education in programming webpages and after 30+ hours of searching for a solution of a problem, with no success, I pretty much laid the project on ice.

P.S. The problem was how to make a dropbox fetch info (i.e. firepower or turn-rate) from my database and subsequently post the results once the user had choosen two planes to compare and pressed the "go" button.

Tells you the caliber of players in the S3 when the very first thing posted on both sides is a/c performance and setting strategy accordingly. We combated in almost comically predictable flight profiles but great fun nonetheless.

A suggestion Robert is maybe display the raw numbers below the comparison window. The stars are great quick reference, but at least for me, I like to ask why :)

We rated the La-FN the fastest down low with that wicked Boost 2. It may not sustain speeds for long but if you gotta scoot to survive...or kill, it will make the LW look like a Volkswagon, and we saw this in low engagements. Wing tearing notwithstanding.
