Orders were to take the IL2 and hit shipping in the 2.0 & 3.0 grid.
Pilots in attendance were Farout, Houndg, Muskyz & Coolon.
We rolled from F193 and began the long trek west. Following the action in the buffer, we decided that it was too heavily defended and we should hit the shipping as far west as we could. That meant traveling out to 0.0.5 area.
We made it fine and found several groups of (AI) transports. We sank 7 (I believe) while loosing Farout & Houndg when the ships exploded beneath them. Muskyz & I ran back south and east, skirting the southern edge as best we could. We even delayed our exit as there were cons called out near the 3.0 cross. we never saw any cons and made it back to base with orders to hit the shipping in the port at 42.
En route we were directed to attack the AI shipping at 1.0.2 so we flew there and attacked them. We saw 5 ships go down in the buffer, but even with going out of our way to stay out of the collision bubble we still got too close I think. At least that was my case as I lost my horizontal stab after breaking off a straffing run.
Totals for the evening were: 4 Pilots lost 12 Transports sunk
I got to shoot ships! I know a lot of folks hate the ships but to me, that is the most fun thing that we do as a strike squad.
I got greedy on my last pass and knew I was going to end up flying right over the ship and of course blew up. I should have known better. Oh well, did I mention I got to shoot ships!
