23rd FG put up 15 pilots for frame II. We lifted with a mix of SpitVC's and P38F's and started heading north to support the DR. Along the coast we received reports of LW coming west, so we turned and setup up station close to the front. Raygun made his run on F71 and left only the titanium tent standing. Try as we might, we couldn't seem to find the enama and started toward the DR again, when reports came of the LW coming west in the center of the map. We turned south and found the LW from 23K down to the deck, mixed with some allied unit. We engaged and picked up a couple of kills, the turned west when GCI said more bandits were converging on us. With fuel and ammo low for some we started home and were directed north to avoid the enemy above our field. We were about to use another field when CGI reported the enemy was withdrawing and we landed at F79. We waited in twr while the enemy cleared the area and then lifted to grab alt to the NW. Reports of bandits coming north and we turned to engage and ended up in a fight that took us to the deck. We scored a couple of kills but lost two of our own. Once we had alt we started back toward the NW and as the area was clear I sent the P38's down to hit the tanks. I think we scored 3 tank kills, but lost 2 more pilots who ran into the gound. As we tried to exit the LW showed up and it was a cat and mouse game getting back to friendly territory. We found the DR near F30 and two of us tried to escort them, while the rest of the group replaned. As the DR corssed the front lines and LW showed up and sleepy and I dove in, watching our fuel gauges. Neither of us could get a kill, but kept most off the bombers. The rest of the squad was almost to the area when sleepy and I had to rtb for fuel. I landed with .3 gal of petrol. Once back at F79 the field was quickly capped by the LW and we sat in the tower. Time for strikes was almost up and we called it a night.
Final tally: 4 kills, 3 tanks, for 7 losses.
It was a bloody night for us as we were never able to set up correctly. Nice plan Besea, but for us it went south quickly.
