ALLIED FRAME 1

To: Defending forces British Malaya

Gents, I ain’t gonna sugarcoat this. We are in some deep shit.

Yesterday Japanese forces landed troops in Thailand in what looks to be the beginning of the invasion of British Malaya.

You’ve probably heard by now that the Japanese Imperial Navy also struck a serious blow to the American Navy at Pearl Harbor.
Which means for the foreseeable future, we are all that stands between Singapore and the Japanese Army.

The Japanese are massing forces to the North. We can expect attacks from the air at anytime.
I would imagine they will be softening us up for the imminent invasion of British Malaya.

I want all air commands on high alert all along Northern Malaya from Alor Star (Landing Strip 13) to Kota Bharu (MAF 12)
There’s no knowing where and when they will strike so I would suggest having aircraft in the air, ready for any imminent attack.

God Speed gents.

Mission: Defend allied airfields in the North all along the front lines.

1. Defend airfields
2. Destroy all enemy aircraft
3. Attack any amphibious landings
4. Attack any installations that may slow the Japanese advance.

Frame 1 Additional rule:

Allied aircraft:

Buffalo Mk1 - x 3 per pilot

Min of 25% of allies must fly a Blenheim or Swordfish at least 2 sorties in frame.
Subsequent sorties may be in any aircraft.

Since I am allied CO for Frame 1 and we need 25% of our pilots to fly bombers/dive bombers...how about:

4th FG bases at MAF 12, Kotu Bharu and defends the airfield.

RCAF base at landing Strip 13, flying buffs, you go offensive to get us some points.
You can strike targets:
Village 15, Tank Column 10, Depo Sm 2, and Railyard Sm 80.

Closing them gives us points correct? Focus on the easiest ones first to close for points.

Once you close a few, you can decide to continue or come help defend MAF 12.

Unlikely we could close, but we do get points for destroying individual targets.
There is nothing at the Village that gets us points. I'll take a closer look at what points we might earn from attacking the other three fields.

I assume you do not wish to attempt to attack the IJN transports?

whatever will get us more points.... also consider that the swordfish will be a juicy target for the Japanese. You might be left alone if you hit targets in the West... however, I will leave that up to your squad to decide... just let us know what you plan to do so we can provide escort if you decide to hit transport ships.

Also, let us know if you want your squad on our TS channel and I'll see if I can get someone to set that up.

I was mistaken. I had a close look this morning and there are juicy targets at V15:
3 trucks (6 pts)
2 warehouses (4 pts)
1 dock (5 pts)
1 boat (5 pts)
2 x 20mm defending.
Closing the field or killing acks gets us no additional points.
If IJA rushed fighters there at T+0 we would meet overhead at about the same time. I haven't been able to confirm if we will have 2 or 4 players Sunday. A Buffalo or 2 tagging along with us would be nice. If no fighters, they could strafe the trucks.

Second sortie clean up at V15 (might be a few bits left) or hit Tank column 10. Would like some form of escort. Probably two of us in fighters and 2 in Blenhiems. If we lose the Blenheims in the first sortie will have to think hard about Swordfish.
3 trucks (6 pts)
4 tanks (8 pts) - hard to kill
3 fuel (15 pts) - primary target.
2 x 20mm, 2 x MG defending

swordfish is slow, but it does carry 3 500lb bombs. The problem is dive bombing in it. You have to be careful not to get too fast in the dive. So you need to roll over the target at 6k maybe and get lined up and drop quickly. They do take a considerable amount of damage. But little no no pilot protection. I doubt the Japanese will see that village as something to spend precious fighter pilots on.
